Pompeii Tickets: Express, Plus, Grande and Official Booking

Choose Pompeii Express if you want the ancient city without the suburban villas. Choose Pompeii Plus if those villas and the included Boscoreale visit matter to you. Consider the three-day Grande Pompei option when you genuinely plan to visit several included sites. A larger ticket is useful only when its extra access fits the time and transport you have.

Information checked on 26 October 2026 against the Archaeological Park's ticket catalogue and access regulations. This is a ticket-selection and booking guide, not a walking itinerary through the excavations. Opening arrangements, availability and the final order total must be checked for your own date.

Express, Plus and Grande: compare the access first

TicketOfficial full tariff checkedMain coverageImportant limit
Pompeii Express€20Ancient city of PompeiiSuburban villas excluded; one admission
Pompeii Plus / Pompei+€25Ancient city, suburban villas, Villa Regina and Antiquarium at Boscoreale, shuttleOne admission; additional places need time
Grande Pompei, three-day option€30Plus coverage and additional park sites including Oplontis and StabiaeThree days, one admission to each included site on its opening days

These are the published full tariffs in the catalogue effective from 12 January 2026. Check the actual product and any booking charges before payment. The table does not price a guided tour, an audioguide or transport from Naples; those are separate things unless the selected offer explicitly includes them.

For the wider city part of your trip, try RoadMe: in supported cities, the app develops a complete personal programme around your interests, dates and pace. Planning in the app is more convenient when you want to leave realistic time for an archaeological visit and recovery afterwards.

Start with the places you actually want to enter. “More included” is not automatically better: a visitor concentrating on the ancient city has different needs from someone staying nearby to explore the wider archaeological park over several days.

What Express does and does not mean

Pompeii Express is the ancient-city ticket. The name does not mean a guided express tour, a guaranteed short visit or a special exemption from entrance checks. It gives access to the main archaeological area under the current opening arrangements, without the suburban villas included in Plus.

It can be the sensible choice when you want to focus your available time on Pompeii itself. Buying a broader product will not create extra daylight or remove the physical effort of a long archaeological visit. Decide what you are prepared to spend time on before comparing the price difference.

Nor does admission mean that every house will be open. The park publishes a separate list of accessible buildings, with temporary closures and individual opening periods. A valid ticket gives the applicable admission right; it does not guarantee access to every room or fresco shown in promotional photographs.

Plus: the suburban villas are the meaningful addition

The checked Plus catalogue includes the Villa of the Mysteries and Villa of Diomedes, as well as Villa Regina with the Antiquarium at Boscoreale and the shuttle service. Compare this actual scope rather than assuming Plus means an audio commentary, a guide or a transfer from your hotel.

The villas add a different dimension to the archaeological experience. Pompeii is not simply a collection of freestanding monuments: houses and surrounding properties help explain the lives and landscapes of the ancient settlement. Choose the wider coverage because that interests you, not because the name sounds more complete.

Check the extra access against the time left in the day. The park publishes a last-entry condition for the suburban-villa access at Porta Ercolano, separate from the general closing time. An afternoon arrival can therefore change the practical value of a broader ticket.

Grande Pompei: three days do not mean three Pompeii entries

The checked three-day product combines Plus with Oplontis, the Stabian villas Villa Arianna and Villa San Marco, the Archaeological Museum of Stabiae, Boscoreale and the shuttle. Its validity is three days with one admission to each included site, on that site's opening days.

Do not read that as permission to enter Pompeii on three different days or to leave for lunch and return on the same admission. The catalogue explicitly excludes exit and re-entry on the same ticket. If repeated admission to the same site is essential, ask the park which current product actually covers that requirement.

Also avoid confusing the wider park with every attraction near Vesuvius. The checked Grande coverage is not a combined ticket for Herculaneum or the volcano crater. A reseller may sell a different bundle with those places, but that is a separate product with its own admissions and transport.

Before choosing the three-day option, verify that the other sites open during your actual stay and that reaching them is practical. A ticket validity period does not extend because a particular attraction is closed on a weekday. Do not buy theoretical access that your departure date prevents you from using.

Can Express be upgraded on site?

The official catalogue lists an €8 supplement for an Express holder to access the suburban-villa section. It is sold at the beginning of that section at Porta Ercolano–Street of the Tombs, with card payment only. The villa section is not sold as an independent visit without the relevant Pompeii admission.

On those published tariffs, Express plus the supplement totals €28 before any separate booking charges, compared with €25 for Plus. The arithmetic is a product comparison, not a promise about the final checkout total. If you already know that the villas are important, comparing Plus before buying is more straightforward.

Do not plan an upgrade as a solution to every booking mistake. It does not remove access cut-offs, closures, transport needs or the current payment condition. A late decision can still leave insufficient time to enjoy the additional places.

How to find the official buying channel

The current park website identifies Vivaticket as its official online seller and links to the Pompeii Vivaticket portal. Begin with the Archaeological Park's own website, open its ticket section and follow that buying link. This method is more reliable than choosing a page solely because its title contains “official”.

Older guides and documents can still mention TicketOne. A historical link is not evidence of the current booking arrangement. Use the seller linked from the park at the time of purchase rather than an old screenshot or a search advertisement.

Commercial booking platforms may offer legitimate packages, but compare the actual seller, admission, add-ons and conditions. A product containing transport or commentary is not directly comparable to a bare entrance tariff. A higher price is not by itself proof of fraud, and a familiar-looking name is not proof that you are buying from the park.

For broader booking principles, our guide to museum tickets, entry times and refund conditions explains the checks that matter. For Pompeii, the park's specific named-ticket rules remain decisive for the ordinary admission described here.

A booking sequence without assumptions about the screen

  1. Write down which sites you need and choose the corresponding ticket product.
  2. Check the current opening calendar, access conditions and available day or entry period.
  3. Follow the purchase link from the park's official website and confirm that the product matches your choice.
  4. Enter each visitor's name carefully, using the identification they will carry.
  5. Check the date, time period, ticket category, extras and complete total before paying.
  6. Save the issued ticket and confirm that it is an admission document, not merely an order confirmation.

Screen labels and purchase steps may change; these are the decisions to check, not a claim that every button has been tested. The official buying guidance describes a PDF ticket that can be printed or shown on a smartphone for access at the turnstiles.

Keep a usable copy available without depending on a last-minute email search. If a confirmation arrives but the actual ticket is missing, contact the seller using the details in your order before travelling to the gate. Do not assume that a payment notification alone contains everything required for admission.

Names, identification and changes

The park's current ordinary access regulations require a personal, non-transferable ticket bearing the visitor's name and the day and entry time period. Staff may ask for identification to compare the person with the ticket. If the names do not match, admission can be refused without a ticket refund under those regulations.

Check spelling and visitor allocation before payment, especially for a family or group of friends. Do not put every individual ticket in the purchaser's name simply because one person pays. Carry valid identification and any evidence needed for the chosen concession.

The same regulations say that the ticket name and visit date cannot be changed and that named tickets are non-refundable except for extraordinary closure of the park. Do not import an airline-style change assumption or a reseller's flexible-package slogan into the ordinary park ticket.

If you buy a separate commercial service, read its conditions as well and establish exactly which part can be cancelled. A guide's cancellation policy and the admission document are different contractual items. Preserve the seller's written terms instead of assuming that a broad advertising phrase settles both.

Concessions: eligibility matters more than the label

The park's published reduced tariff is €2 for eligible EU citizens from age 18 to under 25. Its note also includes qualifying non-EU citizens holding an Italian residence permit on the specified grounds. That is not a universal youth or student discount for every visitor.

Check the current concession description and the documents required for your own circumstances. Residence, citizenship, age and student status are different facts. Do not choose a reduced category merely because a booking page offers it in a menu.

For free categories and special admission days, use the park's current directions and the applicable cultural-admission rules. A zero ticket price does not mean that names, capacity controls or proof of eligibility disappear. Confirm the issue procedure for each person rather than assuming the paying adult's ticket covers everyone.

Entry period, closing time and open houses are different

Pompeii uses a daily admission cap and entry periods. The park can amend arrangements for preservation, safety and visitor management. The presence of a daily cap does not establish how early every date will sell out or justify an invented claim that tickets always release a fixed number of days ahead.

Check the current period offered for your day, the last admission and the closing time separately. An afternoon ticket is not permission to arrive after last admission. An early entry period also does not make a temporarily closed house accessible.

The separate open-buildings list distinguishes buildings accessible inside, places visible only from outside and temporary closures. Use it to set expectations, especially if one house or exhibition is your main reason for travelling. It is a more useful check than treating every landmark in a reseller's gallery as promised access.

The included shuttle is not a guaranteed reserved seat

The park describes Artebus as a service for visitors subject to availability on each run. Its seasonal timetables and site opening days matter. Ticket coverage does not reserve an unlimited choice of departures or replace checking how you will return.

There is an important access detail: the official shuttle guidance says the Villa of the Mysteries is entered through the internal Plus section, not from the road at the shuttle stop. A stop name must not be mistaken for an independent villa entrance. Check the park's current access instructions rather than improvising from a transport name.

Accessibility requires a separate check of the actual service and visit. The ticket information notes that the shuttle is not equipped with disabled access. If step-free transport is essential, confirm a workable arrangement with the park before choosing a product on the strength of “shuttle included”.

For supported city stops before or after Pompeii, let RoadMe work out a full personal plan around what interests you and a comfortable pace. A complete programme in the app is easier to use than adding more visits to a day already shaped by a major archaeological experience.

Season also changes the practical value of an ambitious ticket. Our guide to choosing when to visit Italy helps compare city heat, coastal plans and seasonal conditions. Use it to choose a manageable trip, while checking Pompeii's own current access information for the actual visit.

The best ticket is the smallest product that fully covers the visit you genuinely want and can carry out. Express is not inferior because it excludes villas; Grande is not better because its list is longer. Choose coverage, confirm the names and date, and leave yourself enough time to appreciate the archaeology.
