Uzbekistan Train Tickets: Booking Afrosiyob and Other Trains
Buy Uzbekistan train tickets through the railway’s official booking service, its official app or a railway ticket office. Select the exact departure, enter each traveller’s identity details, pay and download the issued PDF. An available train, a saved search and a bank payment notification are three different things: your booking is ready when the correct passenger ticket has actually been issued.
For Afrosiyob and other domestic trains, the useful questions are when sales open, which service you are buying, whether your payment succeeds and what you must show at the station. This guide covers journeys within Uzbekistan, rather than international trains and border formalities. Booking and refund conditions were checked on 25 October 2026; the live search determines the fare and availability for your departure.
Choose the journey before choosing the train
Start with your travel date, departure and arrival stations, and the time you need to be at your destination. Afrosiyob is a named high-speed service, not a generic label for every train between the same cities. A search can also offer a different daytime service or a conventional train with sleeping accommodation. Check the train name, number, arrival date and accommodation together.
For the city days around your rail journeys, try RoadMe: in supported cities, the app builds a personalised day-by-day programme around your dates, interests and pace. It is a convenient way to organise the sightseeing part of the trip once your train times are settled.
| Option in the search | What you are choosing | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Afrosiyob | A specific high-speed departure | Service name, class, station and arrival time |
| Another daytime train | A different service and journey duration | Whether accommodation is seated and what the class includes |
| Conventional overnight train | A seat or sleeping berth, depending on the carriage | Berth category, shared occupancy, date of arrival and bedding |
Afrosiyob’s history helps explain its place in a cultural trip. Regular Tashkent–Samarkand service began on 8 October 2011 using Spanish Talgo trains; the name refers to the ancient settlement associated with Samarkand. History does not establish today’s timetable or availability. Use the departure shown for your date, rather than a timetable reproduced in an old travel guide.
When tickets go on sale
The current public offer says sales start no earlier than 60 days before the train leaves its initial station, at 10:00 local time. It also expressly allows the carrier to change the opening date. Treat this as the published booking framework, not a promise that every service will appear exactly 60 days before the day you intend to board.
The reference to the initial station matters for trains running overnight or serving intermediate stops. Your own boarding date may differ from the date on which the train began its journey. If a departure is not visible, check the service date and station carefully before concluding that you counted the booking window incorrectly.
There are at least three possible reasons for an unsuccessful search: sales have not opened, the desired accommodation is unavailable, or that particular service does not operate for the selected date and station pair. The result alone does not identify which explanation applies. Check nearby dates and other departures, then ask the railway if the situation remains unclear.
Online domestic sales can continue until five minutes before departure under the offer, but that is a sales deadline, not permission to reach the station five minutes before the train. Station-entry and boarding requirements still apply. The site also specifies a technical interruption from 02:30 to 03:00 local time; an unsuccessful operation during that window need not mean the train is sold out.
Use the official service and check the station
The railway’s older e-ticket address currently redirects to its Uzrailpass booking service. The official home page has Russian, Uzbek and English language choices, a station-and-date search and links to the mobile apps. Reach the booking service through the railway’s own pages rather than trusting a sponsored result, a familiar-looking logo or an address sent by an unknown seller.
A timetable showing a train does not confirm that a seat is available for sale. In the booking search, select the station offered by the system, the correct date and the direction of travel. Where a city has more than one departure station, use the one written on the selected service and issued ticket.
- Search the departure and arrival stations for your intended travel date.
- Read the service name, number, times and arrival date before selecting it.
- Compare the available carriage categories and the total for your party.
- Sign in through the official process and enter the passenger details.
- Review the complete order, payment conditions and refund rules.
- After payment, open the issued tickets and save the PDF for every traveller.

Enter the passenger details without improvising
Each ticket must match the identity document used for booking. Check the document type, number, name and other requested fields against the original document. The current offer says that, where personal details appear in both Russian and Latin characters, the Latin version is used for domestic as well as relevant international bookings.
Use the document option appropriate to the traveller, rather than choosing an Uzbek passport type merely because it appears first. Do not invent a local personal identification number to get past a field that seems unsuitable. If the form does not clearly accommodate your document, stop before payment and ask the official support service how to enter it.
Read the final order line by line: an incorrect passport number or other personal information can make the ticket invalid for boarding. The offer places responsibility for the information on the person making the order and requires corrections before payment. Do not assume that a small spelling difference is automatically tolerated or that a ticket-office printout will correct the underlying data.
The current online conditions allow no more than four passengers in one order. Seats in different carriages are purchased in separate orders. A larger group therefore needs additional organisation: keep a passenger list and check which tickets have actually been issued before buying the remaining places. Separate orders can involve different availability and payment outcomes.
Payment: look for the ticket, not just the debit
The current offer lists local UZCARD and Humo payment, international card networks and digital payment methods. That list describes supported payment routes; it does not guarantee acceptance of every card issued by every bank. Your issuer, verification method, transaction limits and the payment processor can still affect the result.
For international payment, check the final amount, currency and processing charges before confirming. The offer describes international processing through a merchant-of-record arrangement and allows additional processing or conversion costs displayed before payment. A search fare in Uzbek som is therefore not necessarily the exact amount your bank will debit in your account currency.
Keep access to the bank’s verification method while travelling. A data connection for browsing does not automatically provide access to a different phone number used for payment codes. For a broader preparation check, see cash or card abroad: what to check before you travel. No language or nationality by itself identifies which bank issued a traveller’s card.
If a payment fails or the page closes, inspect your order history before starting again. The railway’s offer explicitly recommends checking whether an order was created before making another booking. A debit message alone is not proof of a usable ticket, while a timeout alone is not proof that payment failed.
Download the right document for boarding
After successful payment, open the ticket itself. The offer describes an issued electronic ticket with a 14-digit number and a downloadable PDF. An order for several people contains separate passenger tickets; the order number matching the first ticket does not make that first document sufficient for the entire group.
Check that every ticket has the correct passenger, journey, date, train and accommodation. Save the PDFs locally, open them with mobile data switched off and ensure each traveller can retrieve their own document. Keep the login available, but do not rely on station Wi-Fi to reach the ticket.
Electronic registration is indicated by “ER” in the train and carriage information. For an electronically registered journey, the offer provides for a printed A4 ticket with the identity document; displaying the QR ticket on a mobile device is permitted where the station checkpoint or attendant has suitable scanning equipment. Carrying a clear A4 printout is a practical backup when you cannot establish that equipment is available.
A home A4 printout and a ticket-office strict-accountability form are different documents. If electronic registration is unavailable, the offer requires collection of the prescribed ticket-office form in Uzbekistan. Obtaining that form also changes the subsequent refund process: the electronic ticket loses its online status and refund operations must be handled at a ticket office.

Children, sleeping accommodation and practical comfort
For domestic travel, an adult paying the applicable fare can take one child under five without a separate seat free of charge under the published conditions. The child still needs a free travel document, normally added when the adult books. If you want a separate place for that child, select the applicable child-fare option instead of assuming an empty seat will remain available.
Children from five to under ten require a child-fare ticket with a separate place, in the same order as the accompanying adult. From age ten, the offer specifies the adult fare. Age is determined at the start of the journey; bring the child’s original birth certificate or identity document as applicable. These domestic fare rules are not a statement of international border-document requirements.
For a conventional train, distinguish an open-plan berth from a compartment berth, and a shared berth reservation from exclusive use of a compartment. Check the specific carriage and service class for bedding and facilities. The booking offer describes bedding as included in the relevant sleeping-car categories, but that does not establish every meal, shower or socket arrangement for every departure.
If the alternative is an overnight journey, the separate guide to choosing a berth and preparing for an overnight train covers the wider comfort decisions. For this booking, focus on the actual berth, the arrival date and whether a morning arrival fits your accommodation arrangements.
At the station: leave time for the checks
The current boarding instructions recommend presenting the electronically registered ticket and matching identity document at the station checkpoint no later than 30 minutes before departure. Plan your arrival earlier when you need a ticket-office service, assistance or time to find an unfamiliar entrance. That preparation margin is separate from the train’s departure time and the online sales deadline.
The attendant checks the ticket and identity document before boarding. Keep both accessible until you are in the correct carriage. If a carriage has been substituted, follow staff instructions: the offer allows replacement with another carriage of the same category, and the seat numbering can differ.
Once the transfer is complete, let RoadMe help organise your time in a supported destination city around your interests and preferred pace. A personalised sightseeing programme is easier to use after arrival than a collection of unrelated saved places.
For a connection between trains, the offer recommends allowing at least three hours. Treat that as the carrier’s planning recommendation, not a guarantee that any particular connection is protected against delay. Check the station pair, whether you must cross the city and the cancellation exposure of a separately purchased onward ticket.

If your plans change, check the refund before rebuying
The offer does not provide a simple date-change procedure for a purchased ticket. A different date generally means handling the unused ticket under the refund rules and purchasing the new journey. Check new availability and the potential deductions before deciding which action to take first; an unconfirmed replacement should not be mistaken for a reserved seat.
Online refund availability ends one hour before departure from the train’s initial station, not necessarily one hour before your intermediate boarding stop. Later cases require the relevant ticket-office procedure. A ticket already converted to the prescribed counter form is also handled at a ticket office. Do not simply fail to travel and expect an automatic refund.
For domestic trains covered by the offer (excluding CIS-formed trains), refunds depend on whether the ticket is returned more than 24 hours before departure, between the stated 24-hour and six-hour thresholds, or later. The percentage deductions refer to the accommodation or reserved-place component, not necessarily the entire amount paid. Boundary cases and the exact calculation should be checked in the order or with the ticket office.
The current offer specifies a non-refundable 40,000 UZS intermediary fee and a further 15,000 UZS refund-operation charge for the described online domestic cases. Those amounts already mean that “refund before the day of travel” does not equal “receive every som back”. International payment processing or exchange differences can also affect the amount ultimately returned to your account.
