A small but happy update: we’ve launched the RoadMe website. The project now has a home where you can get to know our idea and see the app we’re building.

We made this page to help you understand how RoadMe could make your travels easier. Because “a personal city guide” sounds good, but it immediately raises a question: what can it actually do, and how will it work? On the website, we’ve tried to explain that with clear examples.

Fewer tabs, more city

Sound familiar? Your trip hasn’t even started, and you’re already a little tired. You’ve got travel guides open in your browser, dozens of places saved on a map, and someone has sent you a list of must-visit restaurants. All that’s left is to work out how to fit it all in — and whether you even want to.

We want RoadMe to make the preparation easier. You choose a city, tell us your interests, pace, budget and who you’re travelling with, and the app helps put together a route that suits you. After all, a solo walk, a weekend with friends and a trip with children call for three quite different plans.

The page also introduces other features we’re working on: short routes for a couple of free hours, changing plans to suit your mood, saving favourite places and offline maps. All to keep the trip yours, even if you woke up wanting to visit a museum and decided after breakfast that you’d rather just wander.

Let’s get acquainted first

The landing page is a chance to take an early look at what we’re working on. See how RoadMe will work, explore the interface and find answers to common questions. Like what to do without internet access, or how to swap out a place you don’t feel like visiting.

The app is still in development. The website brings together what we’re working towards, and we’ll keep sharing our progress on the blog: showing new screens, talking through our decisions and taking a closer look at the features.

Come and take a look. And if you have a friend who makes an eight-sheet spreadsheet before every trip, send them the link. We think we’ll have plenty to talk about.
