Lanzarote to Fuerteventura Ferry: Ports, Tickets and Cars

The usual short ferry crossing between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura connects Playa Blanca with Corralejo. Choose the actual sailing, then check whether it carries your car, its boarding deadline and transport at both ends. A short time at sea does not make the complete hotel-to-hotel journey equally short.

Fred. Olsen Express offers a vehicle-carrying fast ferry and a separate passenger-only mini ferry. Baleària Canarias also offers a passenger-and-vehicle service. The important distinction is the product and departure you book, not simply the phrase “Lanzarote–Fuerteventura ferry”.

Start with your day and whether you need a car

Decide whether this is a one-way move between accommodation, a return visit on the same day or part of a longer holiday. Write down your actual starting address and destination. Playa Blanca is not Arrecife, and arrival at Corralejo is not arrival at every Fuerteventura resort.

Then decide whether to travel on foot or with a permitted vehicle. Without a car, identify what you can reach after disembarking. With a hire car, permission from the rental company comes before buying a vehicle ticket.

After selecting the crossing, try RoadMe to work out a personalised plan for the whole trip around your interests and pace. The app makes it more convenient to organise visits and rest while allowing for the actual ferry day.

For a return visit, inspect the outward and return sailings together. A cheap early departure is not enough if the useful return is unavailable. Leave the last part of the day proportionate to the port journey and boarding requirements.

Baleària Canarias Playa Blanca–CorralejoAbout 35 minutesVehicle carriage offeredAvailability and the selected vehicle category

These are the operator descriptions checked for this comparison, not a guarantee of the assigned ship or a departure at any particular hour. Read the selected service before paying. A foot-passenger result can appear in the same search as a car ferry while serving a different need.

If comparing another supplier, use its own current conditions. Do not infer car carriage from a general route page or a photograph of a different vessel. The lowest passenger price may belong to an option that cannot take your vehicle.

25 or 35 minutes is only the crossing

Fred. Olsen describes the Bocayna Express fast ferry at 25 minutes and the Buganvilla mini ferry at 35 minutes. Baleària Canarias describes its Playa Blanca–Corralejo crossing at about 35 minutes. Weather and operational conditions can affect the actual journey.

Compare the next usable departures rather than choosing only the fastest advertised vessel. An earlier slower crossing can reach your destination before a later faster one. Include walking to the terminal, boarding and the continuation on Fuerteventura.

Do not use the ferry's sea time as a hotel transfer estimate. A traveller staying in Playa Blanca has a different starting journey from one near the airport or elsewhere on Lanzarote. The same applies to accommodation outside Corralejo on the other island.

For a connection after the ferry, allow time to leave the ship and reach the next transport. With a vehicle, unloading follows the crew's instructions. A published port arrival is not the moment every passenger is already on the road.

Playa Blanca and Corralejo are the port pair

Save Playa Blanca ferry terminal as your departure, together with the operator's current access instructions. Do not choose an unrelated marina or a general town-centre marker. Similar seaside names do not identify the correct check-in or vehicle lane.

Fred. Olsen's terminal guide gives Muelle de Playa Blanca in Yaiza and describes access from the LZ-2. It lists bus 60 from Arrecife and 161 from the airport or Puerto del Carmen. Check the actual service and stop for the day rather than treating a route number as an immediate connection.

At Corralejo, identify the arrival terminal and the next address before choosing onward transport. A port near a town does not make every hotel an easy walk with luggage. Distinguish a stroll after a day visit from moving the entire party with cases.

For the reverse trip, search Corralejo → Playa Blanca. Do not substitute Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario because they are island capitals. The short crossing described here uses the named ports and its own timetable.

Boarding deadlines: compare the selected operator

Fred. Olsen's Playa Blanca terminal instructions say boarding closes 40 minutes before departure with a vehicle and 20 minutes before on foot, unless the ticket states otherwise. You need to be ready for boarding, not merely driving into the town at that time.

Baleària Canarias publishes a route-specific closure of 25 minutes before departure for Playa Blanca–Corralejo, with or without a vehicle. Its current help table gives the same 25-minute closure for the reverse direction.

These are closing limits, not suggested times to begin finding the terminal or buying a ticket. Arrive with enough time for the actual approach, documents and vehicle instructions. Use your ticket's current deadline if the operator gives a specific variation.

Do not copy a generic 60- or 90-minute rule from a comparison site onto every ferry, or transfer rules from a mainland sailing. Equally, the short sea journey is not a reason to ignore the published closing time.

Tickets and ordinary tourist prices

Compare quotes for the same date, direction and passengers. Add the vehicle if travelling with one. A foot fare per person is not comparable with a total for a family and car until the same people and services are included.

Watch for prominently advertised resident amounts. Canary Islands resident reductions require eligibility and the prescribed validation. Staying in a hotel, speaking Spanish or being an EU citizen does not by itself make a visitor a resident for the fare.

Select your true passenger category and compare the final total before payment. Age, family or other concessions also have conditions. Do not use a promotional resident price to set the budget for an ordinary tourist crossing.

For a return booking, check both dates and the fare terms. A combined outward-and-return offer is useful only if its conditions suit the trip. Also confirm whether the return is tied to a particular departure or requires another action before boarding.

Can you take a rental car?

A ferry carrying cars does not decide your rental contract. Baleària Canarias explicitly requires permission from the rental company before booking a hired vehicle. Ask about island-to-island travel, insurance cover and any conditions affecting the actual reservation.

Do not rely on a list saying that a particular rental brand always allows or prohibits crossings. The contract, vehicle and booking conditions can differ. Keep the relevant permission available and resolve uncertainty before paying for the ferry.

If permission is not available, compare travelling on foot and arranging transport separately on the other island. Check pickup and return locations, desk hours and the total cost of that alternative. Do not assume every port has an open rental desk at the time you arrive.

Return the car according to the rental agreement. A ferry ticket does not authorise leaving it on another island or changing the rental return point. The vehicle journey and passenger journey must both have workable arrangements.

If you do not yet know the registration

Use the selected operator's procedure rather than inventing a registration. Baleària Canarias allows a similar vehicle category and PENDIENTE in the registration field when the final details are unknown. It requires the actual registration to be updated before boarding.

Fred. Olsen's route guidance gives a different temporary process: select Hire for make and model and use 0000XXX as the registration, then update the correct information through its booking service or sales office no later than one hour before departure.

These placeholders are operator-specific booking instructions, not interchangeable codes. Check the current fields and deadline when making your purchase. A temporary entry does not remove the requirement for accurate vehicle details on the final booking.

Once the car is allocated, compare category and dimensions with the reservation too. Updating a plate alone does not make a larger vehicle or different type fit the original garage space. Contact the operator if the actual vehicle differs.

Vehicle size and the right ship

Enter the correct car, motorbike or other permitted category and its dimensions, including relevant attachments. Read the chosen product's vehicle terms. Do not select the cheapest smaller category or assume unusual equipment is included without checking.

The Buganvilla Express is passenger-only. Its appearance in a Fred. Olsen search does not make it an alternative for transporting a car. If keeping the vehicle is essential, filter and confirm carriage before comparing departure times.

Keep registration and required documents accessible in the port. Follow the staff's lane and boarding instructions and secure the vehicle as directed. If the party needs to board separately, follow that sailing's procedure rather than copying a previous ferry journey.

Travelling on foot: plan both ends

A pedestrian ticket can make sense for a visit centred on Corralejo or when onward transport is arranged. Compare the total from your current accommodation to the port and from the arrival terminal to your destination, including the return if relevant.

Check bus timetables and actual stops, not simply the existence of a line on the island. If the last useful local connection finishes before your ferry returns, include another confirmed option. The ferry ticket does not automatically include every bus or taxi.

For luggage, count what each person can comfortably carry through the whole chain. An inexpensive pedestrian crossing is less useful if the family cannot manage the final walk. Confirm the chosen operator's conditions for unusual or bulky items.

Keep essential documents, medication and contact details easy to reach. If leaving luggage in the operator's handling system, establish collection and access arrangements. Do not assume that every type of ticket has identical baggage services.

Same-day return or a change of accommodation?

For a same-day visit, start with the return you need and leave time to reach its boarding point. The number of advertised daily departures does not guarantee space on the specific service that suits your evening.

For a move between hotels, include checkout, luggage and entry at the next property. A morning ferry may reach Fuerteventura before the next room is ready. Ask about luggage arrangements instead of filling that gap with commitments that depend on instant access.

If the ferry is part of a flight connection, search the onward airport journey separately and leave a margin appropriate to the airline. Do not build a tight connection by adding only the crossing's advertised minutes to a road estimate.

Our guide to late arrival and accommodation access helps when the combined journey reaches the property late. Confirm the booked night, entrance and contact rather than assuming a ferry arrival guarantees reception.

Children, pets and assistance

Use the passenger categories and documents required by the selected operator. Conditions for children are not necessarily identical between companies. Enter everyone travelling and keep proof for any claimed discount available.

With a pet, reserve the required place and check the actual ship's arrangements. A passenger-only mini ferry and a car-carrying fast ferry may offer different facilities. Do not infer an available pet space from a general photograph or another vessel's conditions.

For reduced mobility or assistance, contact the operator in advance and confirm the reporting point. Include the terminal approach and onward transport in that check. A short crossing does not by itself establish an accessible journey from door to door.

Changes, weather and a sensible fallback

Read the fare's change and refund rules separately. Fred. Olsen's route guidance describes changes without a penalty when the same fare remains available, with a fare difference possible otherwise. Refunds depend on the purchased tariff; a changeable ticket is not automatically refundable.

For Baleària Canarias or another supplier, use that booking's own conditions. Do not carry one operator's flexibility across to another. Keep the booking reference and the current communication channel available if the sailing changes.

Check travel notices before leaving the accommodation and again if conditions change. A short Atlantic crossing can still be affected by weather or operations. Avoid promising yourself an essential appointment immediately after the earliest possible disembarkation.

Our independent trip planning guide helps connect the transport decision with the whole stay. Keep enough flexibility for the arrival, the next transfer and the rest you need.

In RoadMe, you can work out a complete personal trip plan connecting your interests, visits and rest more conveniently. Try organising the whole stay in the app at the pace that suits your actual island transfer.

Choose the ferry that fits your departure, vehicle permission and onward journey. The useful comparison is Playa Blanca to Corralejo and then to your destination, with the correct ship and boarding conditions for everyone travelling.
