Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX, airport buses and taxis
From Incheon Airport, the fastest train is not automatically the easiest way to your Seoul hotel. AREX Express is a good fit for Seoul Station and a reserved seat. The all-stop train can be more useful for Hongdae, Gongdeok or an intermediate connection. An airport bus may avoid a difficult final interchange, while an official taxi is worth comparing for late arrivals and several large bags.
Start with your actual terminal, the hotel's exact address and the time you expect to leave arrivals. Incheon has separate T1 and T2 transport facilities, and the published departure time at one terminal is not the departure time at the other. Prices and arrangements below were checked in October 2026; confirm the service for your travel date.
Choose the hotel connection before the vehicle
Let the arrival fit your own pace: RoadMe can build a personal trip plan around your interests in supported destinations. Organising the stay in the app makes it easier to leave the first day comfortable and focus on the places you most want to discover.
Save the hotel's name and address in Korean, its nearest station and a contact number. “Central Seoul” is too broad to choose a transfer. A hotel near Seoul Station, one in Hongdae and another in Gangnam can produce three different sensible answers, even for passengers arriving on the same flight.
Confirm the terminal for the exact flight and date, including the operating airline on a codeshare. Keep the return flight separate in your notes. Do not assume that an old airline list or your arrival terminal establishes where you must go for departure.
| Your situation | Option to compare first | What could change the choice |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel near Seoul Station | AREX Express | Waiting for the next departure and the final hotel walk |
| Hongdae or Gongdeok | AREX all-stop | The exact hotel exit and luggage |
| Bus stop close to the accommodation | Airport bus for that stop | Next departure, traffic and final walk |
| Several bags or a late arrival | Official taxi or confirmed transfer | Vehicle capacity and total price conditions |
The useful comparison is door to door: airport walk, waiting, main journey, interchange and the final approach. A forty-three-minute train ride is not a forty-three-minute transfer from the aircraft to every Seoul hotel.
AREX Express: reserved seat to Seoul Station
The Express links the airport terminals with Seoul Station without the intermediate city stops served by the regular train. Published running times are forty-three minutes from T1 and fifty-one minutes from T2. It has reserved seating and requires its own ticket; do not enter expecting a normal transport-card tap to provide a reserved Express seat.
The operator's published adult non-member fare is KRW 13,000. The child fare for ages six to twelve is KRW 9,500. A member rate or a partner promotion is a separate condition, not the price every traveller can assume. Check the final ticket rather than relying on an old tourism page showing a lower adult figure.
At both airport terminals, the Express customer information facilities are in the transportation centre on B1. Follow the signs for the correct service rather than the first rail gate you encounter. At Seoul Station, the operator lists the Express ticket facilities on B2; the station is a large interchange, so leave time for the onward walk.
Express is most appealing when Seoul Station is useful to you and you value the assigned seat. If your hotel is in Hongdae, travelling past it to Seoul Station and returning on another train may be unnecessary. The faster main train does not always make the complete journey faster.

The all-stop train: lower price and intermediate stops
The regular AREX service stops along the route, including Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University and Gongdeok before Seoul Station. Hongik University is the station to examine for Hongdae; Gongdeok offers other useful city connections. Check the actual hotel address and final station exit before deciding where to get off.
The current operator table lists adult transport-card fares to Seoul Station of KRW 4,750 from T1 and KRW 5,350 from T2. These are not a single flat airport fare to every stop. A different destination has its own distance-based amount. They are also separate from the Express fare and its reserved-seat system.
For an adult single-use transport card, the operator adds KRW 100 to the transport-card fare, plus a KRW 500 refundable deposit. The deposit is not another permanent fare: return the card through the appropriate refund process at the destination. A reusable card purchase, loading balance and the journey charge are different budget items.
Unlike the Express, the regular train does not allocate a reserved seat. Do not build a family plan around a guarantee that everyone will sit together. If comfort matters more than the fare difference, compare Express or a suitable bus against the full final connection.
For everyday city travel afterwards, use our guide to Seoul subway tickets, T-money and transfers. This airport comparison does not replace the conditions of an urban pass, and an ordinary city-travel product should not automatically be assumed to cover airport boarding.
Buying an Express ticket without creating a tight deadline
The operator's reservation guidance allows booking up to sixty days ahead and no later than twenty minutes before departure, with payment required within twenty minutes of reservation. These are the published booking conditions, not a reason to select a train only a few minutes after your flight lands.
The guidance says entry through the Express gate opens thirty minutes before departure, and passengers should reach the platform at least three minutes before the train leaves. Buying a ticket is therefore not the final step. You still need the correct gate, platform and seat before departure.
For an arrival, allow for immigration where applicable, baggage reclaim, customs and the walk to the station. Those steps can vary. A cheap advance offer tied to a particular departure is less useful if you cannot use it or change it under its own terms.
Read the conditions of the channel that sells your ticket: a voucher may require a further seat reservation or exchange. Do not assume that a partner confirmation is already a usable ticket for any train. If you need a wheelchair space, the operator's reservation information specifies purchase on site; ask for the exact assistance needed.
Airport buses: useful when the stop fits the hotel
Airport limousine buses are scheduled coaches, not a single universal route or a private limousine for your group. Different operators and route numbers serve different parts of Seoul. Pick the stop close to your accommodation first, then check the line, terminal departure and next available service.
At T1, the airport bus facilities are on the arrivals level, 1F. At T2, the bus terminal is on B1. Confirm the route's exact stand on the current ticket and airport signs. Walking to a remembered stand number for another operator can waste more time than the fare comparison saves.
The airport service timetable provides ticket-office and machine purchase information and warns that operator schedules can change. Look at the current route operator's stops and departure for your date. A route number alone does not establish the correct direction, final stop or availability after your flight.
Before handing over luggage, confirm the allowance, oversized-item conditions and any extra charge with that operator. Do not transfer a two-bag allowance from one company's service to every airport bus. Keep valuables and essentials with you and retain whatever baggage identifier is issued.
A bus is attractive when it avoids stairs and several rail changes and stops near the hotel. Traffic and waiting remain part of the journey. If the bus stops far away and leaves another taxi ride, compare that complete chain with the direct alternatives.

After the last Express: check the all-stop and night buses
The published Express timetable checked lists the last Seoul-bound departure at 22:40 from T2 and 22:48 from T1, arriving at Seoul Station at 23:31. These are airport-to-Seoul times, not the reverse-direction schedule. Recheck the date and any service notices before relying on them.
Missing the Express does not by itself mean every train has finished. Check the regular service separately and verify that the selected train reaches your intended station. A final train that ends earlier along the line is not a complete connection to Seoul Station. This guide does not combine different terminal and destination times into one misleading “last AREX” figure.
Once rail is no longer workable, the airport lists specific night-bus routes. They have individual departures, not continuous all-night service. The route's advertised final destination may also differ from the useful intermediate stop for your hotel.
| Night route | Useful places shown in the airport route list | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| N6000 | Gangnam Express Bus Terminal | Onward access to your address |
| N6002 | Hongdae, Dongdaemun, Cheongnyangni | Exact stop and next departure |
| N6701 | Mapo, Seoul Station, Euljiro, DDP | Seoul Station is an intermediate stop |
| N6703 | COEX, Jamsil, Gwangnaru area | Appropriate stop for the final walk |
The airport lists adult fares of KRW 17,000 for N6000 and N6002 to their stated endpoints, and KRW 18,000 for N6701 and N6703. Intermediate-stop exceptions can differ. These are night-route examples, not the fare for every daytime airport bus.
Terminal times differ here too. In the checked table, N6701 starts at 23:30 from T2 and 23:50 from T1. Look up the entire departure list rather than assuming a regular twenty-minute interval. The date also changes at midnight, which matters when comparing a flight landing with a night-bus departure.
Official taxis: compare the category and full charge
Use the designated taxi stands. Incheon Airport warns about unauthorised solicitation and call vans posing as taxis. A person offering a ride in the arrivals hall is not a substitute for checking the official vehicle category and fare arrangement.
The airport lists Seoul-bound standard taxi stands at T1 as 5C, 6C and 6D, and at T2 as 7C. International Taxi and other booked services have separate pickup arrangements. Confirm the current category and stand on arrival instead of joining whichever queue is shortest.
For Seoul standard taxis, the published night surcharge is 20% from 22:00 to 23:00, 40% from 23:00 to 02:00 and 20% from 02:00 to 04:00. Other vehicle categories and regional rules differ. Do not add one percentage to every car offer without knowing which tariff applies.
A base fare is only the beginning of a metered journey, not the total airport-to-hotel charge. A zone-based International Taxi quote is another product. Ask what a confirmed total includes, including any road charges, and whether delay waiting or a larger vehicle changes the price.
Check passenger and luggage capacity before choosing the car. A group that needs a larger vehicle should compare the actual service rather than divide a guessed standard-taxi price by four. For a booked transfer, save the meeting point and the procedure if the flight arrives late.
Build a late-arrival fallback before flying
Landing time is not the time you reach transport. Prepare the preferred route and a fallback that still makes sense after baggage and entry procedures. Keep the hotel address, contact details and access instructions available without relying on a long conversation at a platform.
Tell the accommodation if arrival may be late and confirm how to enter. A bus reaching the right district is not useful if you cannot access the building afterwards. Our guide to late-night arrivals, transfers and check-in helps organise that part of the trip.
Keep the arrival day lighter with RoadMe: the app can work out a personal trip plan around your interests and pace. It is easier to fit the discoveries you want into the following days when the first evening leaves room to settle in.

Three final checks before you leave arrivals
Does the service reach the right place? Express means Seoul Station; the all-stop and buses offer other useful stops. Compare the last walk and interchange, not just the main journey time.
Can you actually board it? Check your terminal, next departure, correct ticket, platform or bus stand and the time required to get there. A published departure before you are ready is not a viable option.
What happens if the plan fails? Have a specific night bus or official car alternative, a workable payment method and the hotel's arrival instructions. With those pieces clear, the choice between AREX, bus and taxi becomes a practical decision rather than a rushed guess after landing.
