Bali Trip Cost: Accommodation, Transfers and One-Off Charges

Traveller considering the budget over breakfast in a tropical garden

Bali trip costs depend mainly on accommodation, how often you move and how you travel. Two adults sharing one room and hiring a driver on selected days have a different budget from a solo guest in a separate villa, even with similar meals and visits. One island-wide daily average is a poor substitute for comparing the holiday you actually want.

This guide combines checked price examples with a method for building your own total. Information was reviewed in October 2026; accommodation and transport were not booked for your dates. All rupiah amounts are Indonesian rupiah, IDR. Published starting prices, official fees and explicitly hypothetical calculations are distinguished. Add flights and every omitted category before treating an example as a complete holiday budget.

Set comparable conditions first

In supported destinations, RoadMe makes it easier to create a personal travel plan around your interests and preferred pace. Try the app to choose meaningful experiences before dividing your time and budget between them.

A working comparison can use two adults, one room with a private bathroom and seven paid nights. This is a calculation template, not a recommended trip length. Keep flights separate: departure point, baggage and connections can affect the total more than a small difference between meal prices.

A dormitory bed cannot be compared directly with a private room. “Villa” does not necessarily mean an entire house, a private pool or several bedrooms. Establish what the booking includes and how many guests the rate covers before splitting its cost among travellers.

ModelMain spendingCheck

Several accommodation areasDifferent stays and transfers with luggageThe full transfer and check-in arrangements
Resort or separate villaRoom conditions, meals, services and transportInclusions and mandatory additions

Do not select a model automatically from labels such as budget or comfort. A modest, well-positioned room may reduce transport spending. Larger accommodation can suit a group financially only if the actual occupants and sleeping arrangements fit. A cheaper unit per night is not always cheaper per suitable guest.

Area affects more than the room rate

When comparing Ubud, Sanur, Canggu, Seminyak, Nusa Dua or other areas, look beyond the advertised price. Consider access to your activities, practical nearby meals and the number of journeys required. A remote room does not become economical automatically when every outing needs a paid vehicle.

A “cheapest area” ranking is not a booking decision. One area contains different property types, cancellation conditions and facilities. Compare equivalent rooms for identical dates. A view, included meals or room capacity may explain the difference better than the neighbourhood name alone.

For a week, price both one base and a change of accommodation. Add luggage transport and any gap between checkout and check-in to the second option. A lower nightly rate elsewhere does not always cover the move itself. Check whether that change serves your actual interests before adding another transfer.

Read an actual hotel tariff carefully

Tegal Sari in Ubud publishes IDR 800,000 on its Nyalian room page with a statement that service charges and taxes are excluded. This is a specific room example, not a confirmed price for your dates or a Bali average. The description lists two single beds and a view subject to availability.

The same property’s main page says direct-booking displayed prices include taxes and service. That means the headline number cannot honestly be presented as a confirmed final invoice without checking the particular offer. Ask for a total for the dates and guests, with the inclusions explained.

Do not add a universal percentage merely because you see “++” or read about a charge elsewhere. The actual rate and calculation matter. Adding an already included charge twice inflates the budget; ignoring an excluded charge understates it. A final dated offer resolves more than a general rule about every hotel on the island.

Check breakfast, air conditioning, cleaning, extra beds and cancellation separately. Having a restaurant on site does not make meals free. Early check-in subject to availability does not guarantee an immediately available room after an early flight. Price a guaranteed arrangement if you need one rather than assuming it is included.

Transport: vehicle, passenger or a timed service?

Transport can be priced per vehicle between addresses, per passenger on a shared service or per car with a driver for limited hours. A couple divides a vehicle total differently from buying two individual tickets. Passenger capacity without suitcases does not establish capacity for an airport move with luggage.

Get Driver Bali publishes an Avanza/Xenia starting rate of IDR 750,000 for ten hours, with driver, fuel and standard parking. Its FAQ excludes attraction tickets, activities and meals. This is one operator’s published starting point, not an island-wide regulated driver tariff or a checked available booking.

Two such days would start at IDR 1,500,000 if the operator confirms that rate and conditions for your journeys. Ten hours does not promise that you can cover the whole island. Agree addresses, timing, operating area, luggage and overtime before relying on the amount. Waiting and activity time also consume the booked period.

The same operator publishes a separate airport-to-Ubud transfer at IDR 495,000 for a standard car with one to four passengers and luggage. Fuel, tolls and parking are listed as included. This example covers that outbound direction; confirm the return transfer independently rather than assuming an identical price or adding an unrequested return.

What a short transfer price might leave out

Ask for the final address rather than only an area name. Clarify waiting, late-hour collection, stops and bags. If another provider excludes parking or tolls, add them before comparing against an inclusive offer. A smaller first number is not a saving until the service contents are matched.

One short app-based ride is not the cost of a whole day. It does not establish availability of a return vehicle elsewhere at another time. For a prepaid activity, understand the journey back before buying admission. A departure price alone can leave the practical return unresolved.

A rented scooter should not be the mandatory foundation of “cheap Bali” for every visitor. Appropriate licensing, experience, rental conditions and insurance matter. If riding is unsuitable or uncomfortable, calculate another transport model from the start instead of building a holiday around savings you cannot realistically use.

Visa and Bali levy are separate lines

The official B1 visa-on-arrival fee for eligible travellers is IDR 500,000. That does not mean B1 is available to every foreign passport or required for every immigration status. Establish your applicable entry category first, then record its official payment. An agency service charge is a different item.

The Bali foreign-tourist levy is IDR 150,000 per visitor to whom it applies. It is separate from a visa, accommodation and attraction tickets. Exempt categories exist. Do not assume all members of a party have the same obligations merely because they speak the same language or live together.

The levy supports the island’s cultural and natural-environment protection. It is not a daily hotel surcharge. Our article about the Bali tourist levy and Love Bali explains the payment subject separately. For this budget, identify the correct line and retain the confirmation rather than duplicating that process here.

For two adults who each need B1 and owe the levy without exemption, count two visas and two levies. Do not automatically apply that combination to a child, resident or holder of another visa category. Confirm the individual requirements. Do not multiply a one-off applicable fee by hotel nights.

Food: compare a complete day

Record breakfast, lunch, dinner, water, coffee and other drinks for the actual party. An inexpensive warung lunch does not describe a whole day with a cafe breakfast and restaurant dinner. Your chosen combination is more useful than a general label such as the Bali food budget.

A warung is a small local establishment, with different formats and menus. Check the chosen dish and final bill instead of assuming all businesses using the word are equally cheap. Drinks, additions and portions intended for sharing can change the comparison. Select what you expect to order, not simply the cheapest item visible.

At cafes, restaurants and hotels, read whether service and taxes are included. Do not impose one percentage on every bill or add included charges twice. If shopping for your own meals, establish what storage and cooking facilities exist. A mini-fridge is not a kitchen and does not support every self-catering plan.

Keep necessary water and provisions in the budget for long transfer days. Being far from food can create a paid journey. Where breakfast is included, check the covered guests and serving time: an early departure can prevent you from using it. Included does not always mean useful for the day you have booked.

Admission, activities and journeys across water

A day with a driver and a tour including tickets are different products. List selected visits with their admissions, guides, equipment and mandatory additions. Do not pay-count an entrance twice when the tour clearly includes it. Equally, the word tour does not establish every inclusion without a service description.

For another island, price the whole chain: journey to port, boat, local transport, visits, return and any overnight accommodation. One crossing fare is not a day’s complete cost. Confirm whether the selected ticket includes land transport and which addresses it serves. Match the actual services before choosing between two offers.

BlueWater Express, for example, describes tolls as included in its land-transfer service. That does not mean every boat ticket automatically includes any journey on land. Read the specific booking and allow practical time between independently purchased services. Do not treat an operator’s general marketing promise as a guaranteed connection for your separate arrangements.

Choose a few important experiences rather than paying for a long list solely to increase the count. Cultural visits offer more than photographs: context, the site’s rules and time to appreciate it matter. A separate guide or performance should nevertheless be an intentional budget choice, with its own clear price and contents.

A transparent seven-night calculation

For the formula, suppose a room for two has a final inclusive price of IDR 1,000,000 per night. This is an explicitly hypothetical input chosen for arithmetic, not a researched hotel rate, an average or a promise of availability. Replace it with your actual final offer before using the result.

Item for two adultsAmountBasis
Seven nights at the hypothetical inclusive rateIDR 7,000,000Editorial example, not a hotel quotation
Two ten-hour driver daysIDR 1,500,000If the published starting rate is confirmed
Two B1 visas, if applicableIDR 1,000,000Official fee for the relevant eligible category
Two Bali levies without exemptionIDR 300,000Separate applicable visitor levy

Without the room, the last three lines total IDR 2,800,000. Including the hypothetical seven nights gives IDR 9,800,000 for two. This is only a partial basket with a made-up, clearly labelled accommodation input. It is not the cost of a complete Bali holiday, a national minimum or a forecast of your spending.

The basket excludes flights, airport transfers, food, admission, insurance, connectivity and other local journeys. Even the separately published airport-to-Ubud example has not been added. The driver starting rate is not guaranteed for your dates. Fill the missing categories and replace the hypothetical room before evaluating a trip total.

Payments, connectivity and contingency

Distinguish the original tariff currency from the card’s settlement currency. A seller’s rate, a bank rate and fees can differ from a reference conversion. Nationality does not prove which card a traveller holds or where it will work. Confirm a usable payment method for each important reservation.

Compare connectivity for the complete stay and your actual usage. Add insurance, necessary medicines and equipment that you need. Keep contingency separate from expenditure already committed: it is available money for changes, not another compulsory tourist fee. Refundable deposits also belong in an available-funds check rather than automatically becoming final holiday spending.

Our guide to trip budgets and easily overlooked expenses provides the wider structure. For Bali, separating room prices, vehicle journeys and per-person payments is especially useful. Mixing those units can make an apparently detailed spreadsheet give the wrong answer.

Try RoadMe for a personal travel plan around your interests in supported destinations. Planning in the app makes choosing worthwhile experiences and a comfortable pace easier, so the budget supports an enjoyable trip rather than an overloaded programme.

What the final total should contain

  • Flights for every traveller with the baggage needed.
  • Every night at a final rate covering the right occupants.
  • Airport transfers, accommodation moves and local transport.
  • Food and water for the actual people and days.
  • Selected admission and activities with clear inclusions.
  • Applicable visa and levy, connectivity, insurance and contingency.

A fair Bali comparison needs matching conditions rather than the smallest number from unrelated offers. Fix the party and services, collect final amounts and identify assumptions separately. That shows where savings preserve the comfort you need and which costs are still missing.
