Pulkovo Airport to St Petersburg: bus, metro and taxi options

To reach central St Petersburg from Pulkovo Airport by public transport, take bus 39 or 39Э to Moskovskaya metro station and continue on Line 2. Bus 82Э connects with Prospekt Veteranov on Line 1 and may suit a different accommodation location. A taxi or pre-booked car is more practical when the complete public-transport connection no longer works, luggage is difficult or you need a direct arrival.

Information checked on 26 October 2026. This guide concerns the journey after arrival at Pulkovo, not a sightseeing route or a full transport-card manual. Roadworks, station access and operating times can change. The final destination should be your accommodation address, not an undefined point called “the centre”.

Bus plus metro is a connection, not a direct airport train. Pulkovo has no metro station in the terminal. The word “express” in the bus description does not mean a railway service, and reaching a metro station is not the same as reaching the hotel.

For the city days after arrival, try RoadMe: in supported cities, the app develops a complete personal trip programme around your interests, dates and pace. It is more convenient to plan sightseeing in the app once travel, check-in and recovery have realistic space.

First save the accommodation's address, nearest useful station and check-in instructions. Different parts of central St Petersburg have different practical connections. A short map distance can still mean an awkward final walk with luggage, so compare the whole journey.

From arrivals to the city bus

The airport's published transport information places departures for the city buses at the arrivals ground level, identified locally as floor 1. Follow the current public-transport signs after completing arrival procedures and collecting your luggage. Do not go upstairs solely because an older photograph shows buses beside another level.

Check the bus number and destination before boarding. The Cyrillic Э on 39Э and 82Э is commonly rendered E in English guides. The important distinction is the actual route: 39 and 39Э connect with Moskovskaya, while 82Э connects with Prospekt Veteranov.

Temporary roadworks can change the precise stopping arrangement around the terminal. Use the current signs and official transport information rather than a remembered exit number or an old curbside map. This guide deliberately does not invent a door-to-stop walking diagram.

If you are unsure, confirm the destination with staff while still at the terminal. With a heavy suitcase, it is easier to correct the choice before boarding than after arriving at the wrong metro connection.

39 or 39Э: compare waiting as well as the ride

Both serve Moskovskaya. The regular 39 makes intermediate stops, while 39Э is the express service. That does not automatically make waiting for an express the quickest total choice. Compare the departure actually available and current traffic, not only the label.

Published journey estimates vary between operator pages and can change with traffic or route adjustments. Treat them as planning context rather than a guaranteed arrival time. Add the wait, the walk into the metro, ticket purchase if needed and the onward journey.

If a regular bus is about to leave and the express requires a wait, calculate the entire connection. Conversely, a bus arriving quickly is of little use if you cannot board comfortably with your group or if its metro connection no longer runs.

Keep the destination name Moskovskaya available on your phone or as saved text. Similar-looking station names in another city are not relevant; check the St Petersburg route and the correct direction for the next leg.

82Э: a different metro connection, not the same stop

Bus 82Э connects the airport with Prospekt Veteranov on the red line. It is not another name for the Moskovskaya connection. Compare it if your accommodation or onward travel fits Line 1 or the south-west better.

Do not assume that “express” guarantees absolutely no intermediate stops on every current version of the route. Airport announcements have described changes to stopping points around Prospekt Veteranov. Check the stop you need in the operator's current route information.

The right choice depends on the address, not a rule that every visitor must first reach the blue line. Compare changes, the final walk and the time of arrival. A slightly different bus journey may make sense when it avoids an inconvenient connection later.

Using the metro for the central part

Moskovskaya is on blue Line 2. For central destinations on that line, including the Nevsky Prospekt area, check the direction toward Parnas. Prospekt Veteranov is on red Line 1; compare the onward station and any change needed for your address.

Use the current metro scheme and operating notices. Stations undergoing reconstruction can affect the station where you expected to leave, even if trains continue along the line. Do not choose a hotel connection from an old list without checking the intended exit station.

Allow time to enter, pay and reach the platform with luggage. A nominal train journey is only part of the transfer. After leaving the metro, use the accommodation's own entrance instructions, particularly when a courtyard or side-street door differs from the main building address.

If an onward railway departure is important, plan to the correct railway station rather than to a general central landmark. Keep enough margin for arrival procedures, traffic and the station itself. A transport suggestion is not a guaranteed protected connection with your train ticket.

Cost: the bus and metro are separate fares

The checked 2026 ordinary guest fare is RUB 88 for the city bus and RUB 95 for one metro journey. One bus plus one metro journey therefore totals RUB 183 per person before any separate baggage charge or additional journey. This is a fare calculation, not a single combined airport ticket.

Ordinary single-journey comparisonChecked 2026 amountScope
Airport city busRUB 88One ordinary guest-fare journey
MetroRUB 95One ordinary guest-fare journey
Bus + metroRUB 183Calculated one journey on each, excluding extras

The Podorozhnik electronic ticket can offer a different fare, and other products have their own validity conditions. Do not add a surface-transport transfer rule to the metro unless the actual product covers it. For one arrival, compare the usable product and any purchase requirements rather than assuming every discount applies automatically.

For the wider cost comparison, our guide to travel budgeting and easily forgotten expenses helps include luggage, extra transfers and arrival arrangements. A taxi quoted per car and public transport charged per person need the same passenger and baggage assumptions.

Prepare a working payment method before boarding

The transport information lists valid travel tickets, Podorozhnik, supported contactless bank payment, QR tickets and cash to the conductor according to the applicable fare. A generic contactless symbol does not mean that every card issued anywhere in the world will work.

Visa and Mastercard cards issued outside Russia do not work for ordinary Russian shop and ATM transactions under the current official travel-money guidance. Do not build your transfer around tapping such a card. Confirm a usable local payment method before travel and have access to the roubles you need.

If you already have a valid local transport product, check its balance and applicability. If you do not, establish how you will pay for both bus and metro, not only the first leg. Avoid trying a succession of uncertain cards while your group and luggage are waiting to board.

The airport describes a transport-card kiosk near the bus area, but its operating hours are not the same as all flight arrivals. Do not rely on finding it open late at night. A card purchase is an optional planning choice, not a prerequisite you should discover only after leaving the terminal.

Late arrival: check the last complete connection

The airport buses run later than some useful metro departures. That is the main trap in late-night planning: a bus may still take you to a station after the train you need for the centre has gone. The last bus and the station entrance closing time are not the last usable airport-to-hotel connection.

For example, the checked metro station table lists the last northbound train from Moskovskaya toward Parnas at 00:11, while the vestibule's entry closing time is later. These are different events. Treat the time as a dated operating reference and check the current table before relying on it.

Work backwards from the train and any required line change, then allow for walking, bus waiting, traffic and payment. The flight's landing time is not the moment you stand at the airport bus stop. Baggage and arrival formalities need room in the decision.

If there is no comfortable margin for the complete journey, choose a direct car or another arrangement you can actually complete. Do not take a late bus merely because its fare is low and then discover that the remaining journey needs an unplanned taxi anyway.

Taxi at Pulkovo: compare the confirmed order

The airport identifies Yandex Go as its official partner and offers ordering through the app or official desks. Its current information places desks in domestic baggage reclaim and immediately after leaving international baggage reclaim, with round-the-clock operation.

At the desk, confirm the fare and destination before agreeing. In the app, check the quoted journey, vehicle details and pickup instructions. The airport warns against unsolicited unlicensed private-driver offers; a conversation beside the exit is not the same as a confirmed service order.

Use the complete accommodation address and specify the entrance where relevant. Compare the required vehicle for passengers and bags, child-seat needs and any accessibility requirement. A cheap headline for a car that cannot take your group is not a usable comparison.

There is no honest fixed taxi price for every arrival, time and destination. Check the current quote, payment method and any relevant waiting conditions. Do not infer that a terminal pickup point from an old article applies to every current vehicle category.

Pre-booked transfer: settle the arrival details

For a pre-booked car, agree on the meeting procedure, flight delay handling, included waiting and the precise destination. Save contact details and the booking outside your email inbox as well. A driver meeting you and an app pickup can involve different practical steps.

Confirm whether the quoted amount is per vehicle or person, which luggage fits and how payment works. If the flight changes, use the provider's agreed process. Do not assume that every operator monitors a flight or waits without limit simply because the product is called a transfer.

For check-in after reception hours, our separate guide to late-night arrival, transfers and accommodation access explains the wider preparation. A successful airport journey still needs a way into the room when you arrive.

A practical decision before leaving arrivals

  1. Confirm the accommodation address and the last useful metro connection, if relevant.
  2. Choose Moskovskaya via 39/39Э or Prospekt Veteranov via 82Э according to the whole journey.
  3. Check the current stop arrangement and a payment method that works for both legs.
  4. If luggage, timing or access makes the connection impractical, compare a confirmed taxi or transfer order.
  5. Keep the address, booking and check-in instructions available without a last-minute search.

After a late flight, do not turn the first city day into a second endurance test. Leave realistic space for sleep and settling in. A transfer that preserves your energy can be more useful than the cheapest option considered without its final walk and waiting.

Once arrival is settled, let RoadMe develop a complete personal city programme around your interests and a comfortable pace where supported. Using a coherent plan in the app is easier than trying to add every attractive place to a day shortened by travel.

The best Pulkovo transfer is the one that gets your actual group to the actual entrance at a workable time. Compare the whole bus-and-metro connection with a confirmed car journey, count separate fares honestly and check the last train rather than relying on the last airport bus.
