Prado Museum Tickets: Official Booking, Concessions and Free Admission
For Prado Museum tickets, begin with the museum's own sales channel, choose the date and time, and check whether you need collection access alone or a capacity-controlled exhibition pass. Ordinary general admission is €15; the reduced category is €7.50 for eligible visitors. A reduced or free ticket can still require personal proof at the ticket office on the visit day.
This guide explains buying, concessions, exhibition slots and managing a booking, with conditions checked on 27 October 2026. It does not claim to have tested a payment or found live availability for your dates. For choosing between Madrid's major museums, use the separate comparison rather than treating this ticket guide as an art itinerary.
Start with the product, not a promise to skip everything
Let RoadMe develop a personal travel plan around your interests and preferred pace in supported destinations. Organising the whole journey in the app is more convenient than collecting scattered suggestions, while purchasing the actual museum admission remains a separate practical step.
The museum's rules provide for tickets through its website and ticket offices, with the relevant date and time selected. Use the museum's own channel when you want its ordinary admission conditions. A similar name in a search result does not establish that a seller is the museum.
Read what is being sold: admission, an exhibition reservation, an audio guide, a guided service or a bundle. The presence of the word official in an advertisement does not tell you which components are included. Compare the named product and the actual provider.
An online ticket does not remove security checks. If your category requires concession verification, that is another step too. A claim about avoiding the ordinary purchase queue should not be interpreted as permission to bypass every control or arrive after the booked time.
If you are still deciding which collection interests you, our Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía comparison addresses that choice. Here the goal is narrower: buy the correct Prado product and arrive with the evidence needed to use it.
General, reduced and free admission are different categories
The ordinary general price is €15. The published reduced price is €7.50, subject to qualifying conditions. A zero-price category is not automatically a ticket for anyone: it may refer to a specific concession or a distinct access period.
Do not confuse a ticketing page's unselected counters or empty price display with a free offer. The amount must correspond to your selected date, product and category. If the page has not loaded properly, resolve that before treating a placeholder as the museum's actual tariff.
| Category | What to establish | What to bring or check |
|---|---|---|
| General | The actual dated product and exhibition selection | Completed admission and booking details |
| Reduced | A recognised qualifying category | Valid current official evidence for visit-day verification |
| Free by personal entitlement | The specific age, study, professional or other condition | The documents applicable to that category |
| Free collection period | The current access arrangement for that date | Separate conditions for temporary exhibitions |
Choose each traveller's category separately. One person's age or membership does not determine the entire group's price. If the evidence is missing, the fact that a concession was selected online does not itself prove eligibility.
Concessions: prepare proof, not just a category name
Reduced categories include older visitors meeting the published age condition, recognised youth-card holders and qualifying large-family card holders. The official pricing resolution specifies the corresponding identity or category evidence. Being young or travelling with several children is not the same as holding a recognised card.
For a youth concession, check the actual card named in the museum's conditions, such as the relevant EYCA or recognised travel-card category. Do not assume every student, discount or transport card counts. For a large-family category, confirm the accepted formal accreditation rather than using family size alone.
Free categories include under-18 visitors and qualifying students, alongside other specified groups. A young student should prepare current student evidence and identification. For older students, the listed art-related qualifications and Spanish educational-system conditions are more specific than simply being enrolled somewhere.
If you are at an age boundary or your foreign document does not obviously match the required evidence, clarify the case before purchase. Do not resolve an uncertain entitlement by choosing the cheapest category and hoping the account confirmation will replace the document.
The March 2026 visitor rules require beneficiaries to verify reduced or free entitlement personally on the visit day at ticket offices 1 and 2 with valid current evidence. Follow the museum's actual instructions for your category; online selection and in-person verification are different tasks.

Children: free does not mean no entry arrangement
A child's free entitlement still belongs in the booking plan. Do not buy only adult products without checking the child arrangement of the selected visit. The museum's current ticketing descriptions distinguish under-12 and under-18 categories.
The March 2026 rules say that an under-12 visitor on an individual visit does not require ticket-office accreditation. This is a specific procedural exception, not a statement that children never need admission to be arranged or that every adult concession skips the counter.
Under-14 visitors must be accompanied by an adult throughout the visit. A free ticket does not create independent access for a child. Keep the adult and child plans compatible, particularly if you are choosing a timed temporary exhibition.
Ask about the actual product if an audio guide or museum-run guided service is involved. Admission, a child interpretation offer and the adult's paid supplement are not identical components. Do not generalise a benefit for one service to every commercial tour sold elsewhere.
Temporary exhibitions: inclusion and a time slot are separate
The museum's general information describes admission covering the collection and temporary exhibitions, but a capacity-controlled exhibition may require the correct reserved pass. In the official sales options, collection admission and a product with an exhibition pass are separately identified.
If an exhibition is the main reason for visiting, inspect that exhibition's admission instructions before paying. Confirm the title, selected date, access time and whether the chosen product includes its capacity-controlled entry. General interest in the collection does not reserve a place in every exhibition.
Do not turn the separate pass into an invented universal extra charge. The issue can be allocation of capacity rather than paying twice for the same museum. Read the actual offered product, including any price difference, instead of assuming every exhibition always costs another general admission.
The same care applies to a multi-museum pass. A pass may cover the relevant visit while still requiring an exhibition time to be obtained according to the museum's procedure and availability. A bundle is not proof that every popular exhibition slot is reserved.
Keep collection entry and exhibition entry understandable for every companion. If two times appear, check which applies to which part. Do not buy different exhibition sessions accidentally and expect a common adult admission to override the distinction.
Audio guide, guidebook and guided visit: compare additions
The published audio-guide supplement is €5. A general ticket plus that supplement totals €20 before any other applicable item. The museum also publishes a €24 general-entry product with its printed guidebook. Those are different ways to support a visit, not the same bundle with different names.
Check the interpretation language of the actual service. The language of this article or the museum website does not prove that a particular guide, audio route or group session is offered in that language. A live guide and a device containing recorded explanations are distinct products.
Choose the addition that matches how you want to look. Some visitors prefer to pause with selected recorded explanations; others want a book afterwards or a scheduled group. You do not need every supplement merely because it appears beside the admission options.
Compare a third-party offer component by component. A higher price may include a guide or another service, but it should not be presented as the price of ordinary museum admission alone. Find the provider, service language, meeting arrangement and cancellation conditions before deciding.

Choose the time with room for the arrival steps
Select a date and time you can realistically reach. Allow for getting to the operating entrance, any required concession check and security. A timed admission is not a reason to schedule another fixed commitment immediately before it without a margin.
The ticket is personal, non-transferable and intended for a single use on the selected date under the museum's rules. Keep it until the visit ends. Do not assume leaving for a meal allows you to return later under the same ticket: ordinary re-entry is not permitted.
For a museum meeting or a guided product, check whether its meeting time precedes the entry time. The instruction belongs to the selected service. An unrelated seller's meeting point should not be confused with the museum's official visitor entrance.
Do not choose an entrance solely from an attractive façade photograph. Operating access points and arrangements can depend on visitor flows and category. Follow your confirmation and the museum staff's current directions rather than using an illustration as a door-by-door access map.
Free collection hours: a brief distinction
The last two ordinary opening hours provide free collection access under the museum's published arrangement. This does not make every temporary exhibition free, and the museum publishes separate conditions for exhibitions during that period.
The wider museum comparison already explains the different Madrid calendars and free windows. For this purchase decision, check the current product for your specific date. A short free period may suit your aims, but it does not guarantee immediate entry or enough time for every exhibition.
If you qualify for a personal free category, distinguish that entitlement from the general free collection window. One is about the traveller's evidence; the other is about a particular access period. The required ticket and verification steps should match the route you actually use.
Save the ticket and know how to recover it
After buying, check the email used for the order and retain the actual admission document. A bank notification shows payment, while the ticket identifies what was purchased. Check date, time, product, categories and the number of travellers before considering the task complete.
Keep the purchase email available, especially if another person organised the booking. The museum's official purchase-management page uses the purchase email to send a link for reviewing the order and downloading tickets. Do not assume a typo in the address will correct itself.
If a confirmation is missing, check the relevant account and unwanted-message folders before purchasing again. Keep the order reference and description of the problem for the actual seller. Another charge is not a reliable way to retrieve an already issued ticket.
For general principles on comparing admission products, our guide to museum and exhibition tickets, entry times, concessions and refunds provides a useful next step. Apply the Prado's own conditions to this booking rather than importing another museum's rules.
Changes and refunds are not the same option
The official purchase-management page provides for changing the visit date until 23:45 on the day before the visit, and for managing collection or capacity-controlled exhibition times. Inspect the available options in your actual order; this is not a promise of any replacement slot you want.
The ordinary sales conditions say that refunds are not accepted. Being able to change a booking therefore does not make it freely refundable. Do not deliberately miss the deadline expecting a date change to be treated as a cancellation.
If your situation involves a museum service issue or an exceptional problem, contact the museum's visitor service with the relevant information. This guide does not invent a universal exception or guarantee reimbursement. The March 2026 rules also distinguish occasional gallery closures from an automatic right to a discount or refund.
With RoadMe, the app can develop a personal plan for the whole trip around your interests and pace. It is more convenient to give the chosen collection enough time than to rebuild each day from disconnected ideas around a series of fixed tickets.

A final purchase check
Before paying, confirm the seller, date, collection or exhibition product, each traveller's category and any supplements. Before leaving, confirm the ticket, required concession evidence, applicable entry instructions and time to complete the arrival checks.
The useful result is a booking that matches what you want to visit and documents that match the selected category. That is more dependable than a cheap-looking offer whose exhibition access, verification or cancellation conditions remain unclear.
