Luggage storage in Lyon: Part-Dieu, Perrache and the city centre

9 min read

Choosing luggage for storage before checkout

Luggage storage in Lyon is easiest to choose around the place where you will next need your bags. Part-Dieu has a staffed station service; Perrache's station website directs visitors to partner storage nearby. Central automated options can fit time on the Presqu'île, but each has its own access and closing arrangements.

Information checked on 27 October 2026. Confirm the service for your date, the precise address and the collection deadline before paying. Station opening, online booking availability and the hours when you can retrieve luggage are three different things.

Choose the final collection point first

Start with your onward ticket or accommodation arrangement. Does the journey leave from Part-Dieu, Perrache or somewhere else? Pick storage that fits that next step instead of automatically leaving bags wherever you first arrive.

For supported destinations, RoadMe develops a personal trip plan around your interests and comfortable pace. Using the app makes it easier to organise the time without your main bags while keeping collection and the next departure in the plan.

A central location can be useful if your free time finishes nearby. A station service can simplify a return to the same rail hub. Neither is automatically best: the real question is where you must be after picking up the suitcase.

Ask your accommodation whether it can keep bags after checkout, but confirm the actual return arrangement. A staffed hotel and an apartment without reception are different situations. Do not build the evening around an unconfirmed promise to collect whenever you want.

The main options compared

OptionWhat it providesImportant distinction
Part-Dieu station storageStaffed baggage reception in Galerie Villette, with security screening.Per-bag charges; not an unlimited-access self-service locker.
Partner storage near PerracheA booked handover at the chosen partner's address.Nearby premises, not an assumed counter inside the station.
Drop & LockAutomated storage at 12 rue de Condé.Published opening 7 a.m.–8 p.m.; not round-the-clock building access.
Lockers in TownCentral automated storage listed by Lyon tourism at 5 rue Chavanne. The tourism office lists twenty-four-hour access; confirm the booked period and instructions.

This is a comparison of arrangements rather than a ranking. Some visitors prefer a person handling the suitcase; others need an automatic site with suitable access. Compare the actual collection time and process before treating two offers as equivalent.

The Presqu'île's central position can make storage there convenient between activities. That does not remove the journey back to your departure station. Decide whether the final collection belongs near your leisure time or near the next transport connection.

Measuring a suitcase before choosing a compartment

Part-Dieu: use the current Galerie Villette service

SNCF Gares & Connexions locates the baggage space, including storage and lost property, in Galerie Villette. Its current service is described as staffed manual storage. Do not apply an old account of automatic station lockers to the present deposit procedure.

On the check date, the station page publishes 6:15 a.m.–11 p.m. for the following seven days. Treat that as a dated schedule, not a guarantee for every future holiday or maintenance period. Check the current entry before relying on a particularly early or late collection.

The page warns that storage can be full or temporarily affected by works and provides an alternative partner route. A service appearing in the station directory does not reserve capacity. Keep a realistic alternative if luggage storage is essential to a tight connection.

Do not read a live closed label as a permanent closure announcement. A momentary status and the dated opening timetable answer different questions. Use the actual service information for the day you need.

What happens at the staffed station counter

Part-Dieu's published conditions require security screening, including placing baggage on the X-ray belt. Staff may ask for the bag to be opened. Refusing the required screening means the deposit is not accepted, so leave time for the process rather than assuming an instant handover.

The service issues a numbered collection ticket. Keep it with you and separate from the stored suitcase. Its conditions require proof of identity if the ticket is lost; avoiding that extra step is easier than trying to resolve it just before the next train.

Read the prohibited-items rules. The station conditions include dangerous materials, weapons, perishables and live animals among exclusions. An ordinary-looking suitcase does not exempt its contents from those rules.

If you need accessible entry or assistance with a heavy piece, explain the actual task. The service page marks accessibility and staff presence, but that does not answer every personal handling need or guarantee that a particular oversized object is accepted as ordinary luggage.

Part-Dieu prices: the charge is per bag

The station's current published conditions give the following reference tariffs. Apply the duration boundaries carefully and confirm the applicable amount at deposit. These are not prices for every storage provider in Lyon.

Storage period or categoryPublished referenceCharging basis
Less than four hours€4Per bag.
Four hours to less than twelve hours€7.50Per bag.
Twelve to twenty-four hours€9.50Per bag.
Specific oversized items, XL category€15 per twenty-four hoursPer object, regardless of a shorter actual stay.

Four hours belongs to the second band, while twelve hours belongs to the third. Do not calculate a collection at the boundary using the cheaper earlier band. State the planned time accurately and understand the amount before leaving the bags.

The published XL examples include bicycles, musical instruments, skis, surfboards and strollers. Confirm acceptance and category for your object before carrying it to the counter. A large item is not automatically covered by the ordinary bag amount.

Payment methods listed include cash and bank cards, with Visa and Mastercard named. This is a statement of accepted methods, not a promise that every foreign-issued card will process. Check a usable payment option before making the service central to your day.

Our travel-budget guide helps compare the complete expense, including transport back to the collection point. A per-bag tariff and a per-compartment quote need to be compared for the same actual luggage and time.

Taking something out can end the station storage

The Part-Dieu conditions explain that accessing luggage to retrieve an item before the agreed end terminates that storage. There is no partial refund for the unused portion, and a new deposit requires payment for a new service.

This makes preparation useful. Take out the things needed for the day before handing over the suitcase: travel identification, usable booking access, phone, charger and daily essentials. Keep collection proof outside the bag too.

Do not assume the repeated-access rule of an automatic locker company applies at the staffed station counter. They are different arrangements. If an intermediate return is likely, ask how it would work before paying.

The published maximum storage period is fifteen days. For a much longer stay, seek an appropriate arrangement rather than treating a short-stay station service as indefinite storage. Confirm any unusual requirement directly with the operator.

Perrache: book the actual nearby partner

The Perrache service page describes partner storage around the station and currently links to Bounce. It tells visitors to go to the address on their booking for a hand-to-hand deposit. That is different from assuming that a station-branded result identifies a counter inside the building.

The current Part-Dieu partner page also links to Bounce. A broader tourism article may name a different network; use the actual station's current booking route and the confirmation issued for your selected partner rather than mixing instructions from several networks.

The ability to reserve online twenty-four hours a day is not a guarantee that every partner business accepts drop-off and collection all night. Choose a location whose own hours cover both ends of the visit, including the day of the week and any closure period.

Save the exact address and the required identification or reservation proof. A partner labelled near Perrache can still require walking outside the station. Include that approach and the return journey rather than using the station name as if it were a precise door.

Central automatic storage: access hours matter

Drop & Lock publishes 12 rue de Condé, between the Perrache and Bellecour area, with opening 7 a.m.–8 p.m. seven days a week. Its twenty-four-hour surveillance does not make the premises open overnight. The closing time still controls collection.

The provider describes choosing a locker and duration, receiving a confirmation, identifying at the terminal using a phone number and personal password, and contactless card payment on site. Follow the actual instructions rather than expecting a staffed paper-ticket procedure.

It advertises sizes from XS to L and the ability to come and go during the day. Verify the chosen compartment and the access period. A size label is not a guarantee that your particular large suitcase or several rigid cases will fit together.

Lyon's tourism office also lists Lockers in Town at 5 rue Chavanne near Place des Terreaux, with automated twenty-four-hour access during the reservation. Confirm its current booking terms before payment; a directory description is not your personal access code or capacity reservation.

Measure luggage instead of counting approximate suitcases

Read the actual dimensions when booking a compartment. Measure wheels, fixed handles and protruding pockets, not only the main shell. Think about how several pieces will fit without forcing the door shut.

Compare per-bag services with the cost of the number of compartments you actually need. A large locker can suit several small bags but lose that advantage if your combination requires two compartments. An approximate cabin-bag count is not a universal physical guarantee.

For sports equipment or a stroller, confirm the specific item. The station has an explicit XL category, whereas an automatic site depends on available sizes and restrictions. Do not make the booking first and assume an exception will be available on arrival.

With a group, decide who keeps the booking and who will return for the bags. Keep the relevant instructions with the collecting person. If members leave separately, confirm how the chosen provider handles that situation.

Late collection: charges and closed doors are different

Part-Dieu's conditions describe additional charges for exceeding storage time, including a published €6 per bag for additional periods under the stated rules. Ask how your planned overrun would be counted. Extra payment does not create a right to enter a closed service.

If the agreed end falls outside opening, its conditions provide collection the next morning within the stated window after opening. Do not use that as a plan for catching a train before the counter opens. Arrange collection while the actual service is accessible.

At an automatic central site, confirm what happens when the booking expires, how to extend and when the building closes. Round-the-clock cameras or remote support cannot by themselves establish immediate physical access.

If plans change, contact the actual provider with the reservation reference before buying a replacement. Do not assume every network shares cancellation, extension and refund conditions. Keep its support instructions available outside storage.

Leave enough time for the next departure

Work backwards from the departure with the bag in your hand. Add the journey from the chosen store, possible collection or screening time, station access and the operator's boarding requirements. The station conditions themselves warn that waiting can affect onward travel.

A central locker may be practical for exploring the Presqu'île, but you still need to reach the right station afterwards. Part-Dieu and Perrache are different places. Check the actual departure station on your ticket rather than treating the word Lyon as enough.

Our guide to transport tickets, zones and validation helps keep the onward journey separate from the storage booking. Confirm the actual service and fare instead of assuming the storage price includes transport.

For a short connection, compare the useful time remaining after deposit and collection, not just the gap between trains. If the result is too tight, choose a simpler day rather than depending on every queue being empty.

Final check before leaving your bags

  1. Correct departure station and exact storage address.
  2. Confirmed opening on the actual date and a realistic collection time.
  3. Charging basis, duration band and ordinary or oversized category.
  4. Enough capacity for the real pieces being stored.
  5. Collection ticket, phone access and essentials remain with you.
  6. Clear rules for intermediate access, expiry and changed plans.
After arranging collection, let RoadMe develop a personal plan for a supported destination around your interests and preferred pace. The app makes it easier to enjoy the available time without turning the day into a rush between disconnected suggestions.

The right Lyon storage option matches the next departure, the bag sizes and the way you need access. Check the real door, clock and collection procedure first. Those details are more useful than an attractive starting price without its conditions.
