Beijing airport to city: Capital (PEK), Daxing (PKX) and late arrivals
For Beijing airport transfers, first check the three-letter code on your booking: PEK is Beijing Capital, northeast of the city, and PKX is Beijing Daxing, to the south. They have different rail links, terminals and road approaches. A transfer described simply as “Beijing airport to the centre” is not specific enough to book or follow.
In daytime, an airport express followed by the right subway connection is often a practical starting point. A taxi or arranged car becomes more attractive with heavy luggage, several travellers, a difficult final walk or a late arrival. Choose using your accommodation’s exact address and the time you expect to leave arrivals, rather than the advertised landing time alone.
Start with the airport code and your actual destination
Ask your accommodation for its Chinese name, full Chinese address and a usable entrance description. Save these with the booking reference and contact details before departure. A familiar hotel brand may have several Beijing properties, and an English street name alone can lead to the wrong one. Keep an offline copy that you can show at a service desk or to a driver.
Planning is much easier in RoadMe: the app develops a personal trip plan around your interests, dates and pace. Try organising the first day around a realistic arrival and check-in, leaving room for the places you actually want to explore.
| Airport | Rail starting point | Useful city connections |
|---|---|---|
| Capital, PEK, 首都机场 | Capital Airport Express, serving T2 and T3 | Sanyuanqiao, Dongzhimen and Beixinqiao |
| Daxing, PKX, 大兴机场 | Daxing Airport Express | Caoqiao, with subway connections |
| Daxing, PKX | Intercity railway, a separate service | Selected departures towards Beijing West |
“City centre” covers a large area. A connection convenient for a hotel near Dongzhimen may be poor for accommodation in the south or west. Put the hotel itself into your journey search, then examine the final station exit and walking section. A station bearing a famous neighbourhood’s name does not necessarily stand beside your reception desk.
Beijing West, Beijing South and Beijing Railway Station are separate railway stations. If you are continuing by train, copy the station from the actual rail ticket. Reaching a station with “Beijing” in its name is not enough. The same principle applies to airport changes: confirm that your onward flight departs from the same airport before considering a connection straightforward.
From Capital Airport: the Airport Express and its interchanges
At PEK, follow the signs for the Capital Airport Express after you have completed arrivals and collected your luggage. The line serves Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2’s station is on B2; from Terminal 3 the station is reached through the transport/parking building connection. Follow the current terminal signs rather than treating a photograph of another terminal as a walking instruction.
The city-side stations are Sanyuanqiao 三元桥, Dongzhimen 东直门 and Beixinqiao 北新桥. Sanyuanqiao connects with Lines 10 and 12, Dongzhimen with Lines 2 and 13, and Beixinqiao with Line 5. These names are useful decision points, not three compulsory changes. Select the one matching your destination and continue in the appropriate direction.
The ordinary Capital Airport Express fare is CNY 25 per person for a single journey, checked in October 2026. The onward urban subway journey has its own fare. Do not compare that airport-only ticket with a taxi quotation covering the whole journey to your hotel. Include everyone in your group and the last section before deciding which option is economical.
Beixinqiao is absent from some older guides that describe Dongzhimen as the sole central terminus. Likewise, older interchange lists can miss Line 12 at Sanyuanqiao. Use the current operating network, and check the train’s displayed destination at the platform. A saved article is helpful preparation; the service information at the station governs your actual journey.
Keep your ticket or payment method accessible until the exit. If you change to the urban network, follow the interchange signs and the instructions for your particular ticket type. A physical ticket, an app ticket and a bank card need not use an identical transfer process. If a gate rejects the ticket, use the staffed service point instead of following another passenger through.

From Daxing: Caoqiao or the intercity railway
The Daxing Airport Express links PKX with Caoqiao 草桥 via Daxing Xincheng. At Caoqiao, you can connect with subway Lines 10 and 19. The airport express station is on the terminal’s B1 transport level. Look for the specific airport-express signs: the presence of several rail services in one airport does not make their tickets interchangeable.
An ordinary single journey between Daxing Airport and Caoqiao costs CNY 35 per person, checked in October 2026. Other sections and premium products have different conditions. For a hotel beyond Caoqiao, add the urban subway fare and the final walk. The short advertised airport-express running time refers to the rail leg, not to reaching every hotel in central Beijing.
Daxing also has an intercity railway connection. A suitable departure towards Beijing West 北京西 can be useful if that station matches your onward journey or accommodation area. This is a railway booking decision, with a particular departure, identity-document requirements and ticket conditions. Check the actual train and destination rather than assuming it runs like an unrestricted subway shuttle.
Before choosing that train, compare the time needed to reach the platform, obtain or confirm the ticket, and wait for departure. A fast train with a long wait can be less convenient than a metro connection leaving sooner. Conversely, avoiding a cross-city subway change can make the railway attractive for a traveller whose next train already leaves from Beijing West.
Do not plan around a line merely because a news report says that trial running has begun. In the official material checked for this guide, the proposed Lize extension and trial through-services were not a basis for promising a normal passenger connection. Check the live operating information on your travel date before replacing Caoqiao with a different terminus in your plan.
Compare the whole journey, not the fastest advertised segment
| Option | When it may fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Airport express plus subway | Daytime arrival, manageable luggage, hotel near a suitable station | Changes, station exit, lifts, last connecting train |
| Airport bus | A current stop is convenient for your accommodation | Exact line, direction, day/night stops and departure |
| Official taxi | Several travellers, bulky luggage or an awkward final walk | Queue, luggage capacity, Chinese address and full fare conditions |
| Booked car | A confirmed meeting arrangement is worth the extra planning | Flight tracking, waiting allowance, pickup location and included charges |
A useful comparison has the same start and finish: the public arrivals area to the entrance of your accommodation. Add the terminal walk, ticket purchase, wait, ride, changes and final walk. You do not need to predict every minute; you need to notice when an appealing rail time leaves several substantial sections out of the calculation.
For a family or group, rail fares add up per eligible passenger, while a car’s capacity is limited by both seats and luggage. Confirm the vehicle size before treating one car as an option. A group with large cases may need a larger vehicle or more than one taxi. That changes both cost and the chance of arriving together.
Check the final walk in practical terms. A short distance on a screen can involve stairs, an unsuitable exit or a difficult crossing. If you need step-free access, ask specifically about the entire interchange and station exit. A lift somewhere inside a station does not establish that every route through it is accessible.
Our guide to public transport abroad: tickets, zones and validation explains how to separate the ticket product, transfer rules and payment medium. That distinction is particularly useful when an airport train meets a wider urban network.
Airport buses: useful stops, changing timetables
Airport buses can reduce the number of subway changes when their current stop is close to where you are staying. Ask for the exact line and its city-bound stopping pattern. The airport name printed on a bus is not enough: several services may leave the same terminal for very different parts of Beijing.
The network was revised in 2026, including a July update. Official information describes round-the-clock services on selected lines, including Capital Airport–Beijing West and Daxing Airport–Beijing Railway Station. This does not mean every airport bus, every stop or every reverse journey operates all night. Confirm the departure you will actually use at the official sales point.
Daytime and nighttime routes can differ. A stop shown in an old screenshot may have moved or disappeared, and an onward city connection may already have finished. When buying a ticket, show the destination address and ask where you should get off. Save the stop name in Chinese so you can recognise it without relying on an English announcement.
Buses are still road transport. Traffic affects them, and a scheduled service does not necessarily leave the moment you board. Include the wait and the final walk when comparing them with rail. If the stop is only loosely described as “near the centre”, look at the actual location before paying.

Taxis, booked cars and a pickup you can actually find
Use the official taxi queue indicated inside the airport. Ignore unsolicited offers that do not lead through the official arrangement. Before the journey starts, show the hotel’s Chinese address and confirm that the vehicle can take your whole party and luggage. Keep the destination visible until the driver has clearly understood it.
For a regular taxi, establish the applicable metered fare and any permitted additional charges; keep the receipt. An arranged transfer has a different commercial agreement, so check what its quoted total includes. Waiting after flight delays, parking, road charges and a vehicle upgrade can change the total if they were not included in the booking.
Ride-hailing services use designated pickup arrangements that may differ from the ordinary taxi rank. Follow the location shown for your actual booking, including terminal, level and pickup zone. If the app names a car and registration, match them before boarding. A driver at a convenient curb is not automatically the driver you booked.
Set up an account and usable payment method before flying if you intend to rely on an app. Availability of an English interface does not guarantee that every foreign card, phone number or account will work. Keep a second way to obtain transport, especially if your phone is low on battery or mobile data has not connected.
Once the transfer is settled, RoadMe makes it more convenient to develop the rest of the trip into a personal plan based on your interests and preferred pace. Try giving the arrival day fewer commitments, then use the time you save to enjoy the places that matter to you.
Payment, documents and the late-arrival decision
Beijing has expanded overseas bank-card acceptance on its subway system, including both airport express lines. Official information lists supported UnionPay, Mastercard, Visa, JCB and American Express products. Acceptance depends on the eligible product and issuer: a network logo alone is not a promise that your particular card will work.
If paying directly at a gate, follow the instructions for that service and retain the same card or device for the corresponding exit. A phone wallet and its physical card can be treated as different payment credentials. If you buy a separate ticket, keep that ticket instead; do not accidentally attempt to end a ticket journey with an unrelated bank-card tap.
Bring the identity document required for the service you choose, particularly for a railway booking. Keep the document secure and use the staffed counter when a machine cannot process it. A failed vending-machine attempt does not prove that you must buy a more expensive private transfer.
For a late flight, work backwards from the last useful connection. Immigration, baggage collection and the walk to the station occur after landing. The airport train can still be running while the subway connection you need has already stopped. Check the whole chain and switch to the road alternative if you no longer have a realistic connection.
Contact the accommodation before departure if reception is not staffed throughout the night. Confirm the entry method and a phone number that will be answered after your expected arrival. Our article on arranging a late-night transfer and check-in covers the handover between transport and access to your room.

Before leaving arrivals
- Match PEK or PKX and the terminal to your actual flight.
- Open the saved Chinese accommodation address and check the correct entrance.
- Confirm the currently operating line, departure and final connection.
- Check the price for the whole party and the whole journey.
- Keep the necessary ticket, payment method and identity document accessible.
- Retain a workable alternative if the train, bus or app no longer fits.
If you are changing between PEK and PKX, treat that as a separate cross-city airport transfer, not a terminal change. Check the current inter-airport bus or other connection and the departure airport’s check-in deadline. The existence of a bus service does not by itself make a short self-connection feasible.
Transport details in this guide were checked in October 2026. Before travelling, recheck the operating timetable and any service notice for your date. The most reliable choice is the one that takes you from the correct airport to the correct entrance with a ticket, payment method and backup you understand.
