A USS Midway Museum ticket includes a day aboard the retired aircraft carrier, access to its public exhibits and a self-guided audio tour. It also includes the listed theatre experience and docent presentations. Flight simulators and other paid activities are separate purchases: their presence on the ship does not make them part of ordinary admission.

The museum is at 910 North Harbor Drive, beside Navy Pier in San Diego. This is a visit to a permanently berthed museum ship, not a harbour cruise. Choose admission around the people, the time available and the parts of the ship they can comfortably explore.

## Choose a manageable ship visit first

Start with your main interest: aircraft, life aboard a carrier, engineering spaces or a family audio experience. Then decide how much time you can give it. A ticket grants access to public museum areas, but it does not promise unlimited availability in every narrow space or a seat on every activity.

## Current online and door prices

| Category | Museum online price | Door price |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | ---------- |
| Adult, age 13 and over | $39 | $41 |
| Youth, age 4–12 | $29 | $31 |
| Age 3 and under | Free admission through the museum's stated procedure | |

These published museum prices were checked on 28 October 2026\. Other sellers may offer another price with different booking terms. Compare the actual product, age category and final charge; a seller's headline amount may refer to a child ticket or a particular offer.

The museum's adult category begins at thirteen, rather than eighteen. A thirteen-year-old therefore needs the appropriate adult-priced admission even when travelling as part of a family. Seasonal child offers are separate from that ordinary age table.

## Included admission: separate it from optional spending

| Experience | Ordinary ticket treatment | Practical limit |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Public ship exhibits | Included | Some spaces involve ladders or restricted access |
| Self-guided audio tour | Included | Choose the available language and format |
| Voices of Midway film | Included | Use the day's theatre arrangements |
| Catapult and Trap talks | Included | Check the day's presentations |
| Flight simulator or VR ride | Separate payment | Height, capacity and queue |
| Food, shopping and parking | Separate spending | Own prices and operating conditions |

The ticket page's broad description of museum activities should not be read as free use of every paid attraction. The museum's activity page publishes separate simulator charges. Keep those optional costs outside the basic admission comparison.

Private experiences, an overnight programme or a special event are also not established as included by an ordinary daytime ticket. Read the specific programme if it is your main reason for going. Access to a café means you may use it, not that meals are prepaid.

## The audio tour is included, with six listed languages

The museum lists English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, German and French for its self-guided audio options and map. Select a language you can comfortably follow. The available list does not include Russian, so do not assume a Russian-language booking page provides Russian onboard commentary.

The standard audio experience covers the Flight Deck, Hangar Deck and areas below deck. You choose which locations to visit and which recordings to hear. The ticket does not require following every stop or climbing into a space that does not suit your mobility.

The museum suggests three to five hours for the full standard audio experience. Treat that as a planning allowance rather than a measured guarantee. Listening carefully, waiting at narrow points or stopping to speak with volunteers can change your pace.

## Family audio and Junior Pilot activities

The family self-guided audio tour follows Airman Sam Rodriguez and is aimed at helping younger visitors understand the ship. The museum suggests two to three hours for that format. A family can choose useful stops rather than treating every recording as an assignment.

Ask at the Information Booth near the onboard entrance about the Junior Pilot activity sheet. Children follow its tasks and return to a docent for the programme's wings. Get the actual sheet and instructions; do not rely on an old downloaded task list as the current procedure.

Match the activity to attention and energy. A child interested in aircraft may enjoy a few well-chosen explanations more than an attempt to cover all working and living spaces. Leave time for breaks and the way back off the ship.

## The included film and volunteer presentations

The fifteen-minute Voices of Midway film in the Battle of Midway Immersive Theater is explicitly included in admission. Check the theatre's arrangements when aboard. Its presence in the ticket does not reserve you a personal screening at an arbitrary time.

Catapult and Trap talks on the Flight Deck are also listed as included. Volunteer docents explain how aircraft launched from and landed on a carrier. Ask about the day's schedule and leave enough time to listen rather than expecting a talk to begin when you reach the area.

Volunteers can help make the ship's spaces more understandable. They are often identified by yellow hats. That is different from booking a private guide who remains with your party throughout the visit; do not assume personal continuous accompaniment.

## Air Combat 360 costs extra

The published Air Combat 360 price is $10 per person, and double occupancy is required. This is a two-person activity with a charge for each rider, not a single fee automatically covering the pair. It is separate from the museum ticket.

The operator lists a minimum height of 42 inches with an adult, approximately 106.7 cm, and 48 inches without an adult, approximately 121.9 cm. The maximum is 77 inches, approximately 195.6 cm. Use the operator's actual measurement and onsite check, not a rounded age estimate.

No reservation is required; the ride is first come, first served. Buying museum admission does not reserve simulator capacity. Before promising the experience to a child, check height, comfort with movement and the posted participation instructions.

## VR and other paid activities

The Screaming Eagles virtual-reality experience is listed at $10 per rider, separately from admission. Its stated minimum height is 42 inches, approximately 106.7 cm. It also operates first come, first served without a reservation.

Do not transfer Air Combat 360's two-person rule to every activity. Different equipment has different conditions. Follow the posted instructions for the selected ride and ask staff if a particular need or concern affects participation.

Middie's Fleet, the radio-controlled boat activity, also uses a separate paid session. A family can skip paid activities and still have the exhibits, audio and included presentations. Decide on extras as optional choices rather than a requirement to make the museum worthwhile.

## The Island tour has limited capacity

The ship's Island and bridge area is explored with volunteer docents through navigation and flight-control spaces. The published description mentions winding ladders and tight areas. Check current tour operation soon after arrival if this is an important part of the day.

The museum warns that the line can close as early as 15:30 on busy days. That is earlier than the last general museum admission. An entry ticket bought for late afternoon does not guarantee access to this capacity-limited experience.

Do not make the climb compulsory for everyone in the party. Consider narrow passages, ladders and the ability to keep moving with the group. Ask staff about an appropriate alternative if the physical conditions are unsuitable.

## Opening hours and how late is too late

The museum's regular hours are daily, 10:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:00\. It closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Check the actual date for changes or special-event conditions before confirming the rest of your plans.

The last admission is a cutoff for entering, not a recommendation for seeing the full ship in one hour. The museum's general preparation guidance suggests four or five hours for a broad visit. A late entry needs a shorter, deliberate set of priorities.

Keep admission time, a tour's line closure, simulator availability and museum closing separate. They are different limits. Arriving before one does not automatically satisfy all the others.

## Accessibility does not mean every compartment

Elevators connect Navy Pier with the Hangar Deck entrance, the Hangar Deck with the second deck below, and the Hangar and Flight Decks. Accessible restrooms are available on the Hangar and Flight Decks. These improvements provide important access but do not make every ladder and enclosed space step-free.

The museum provides video kiosks describing spaces that are difficult to access. Ask which parts suit your particular needs rather than relying on a reseller's single percentage of accessible exhibits. The ship's layout and the route between exhibits matter as much as their number.

Loan wheelchairs are available in limited numbers, first come, first served. A free professional-caregiver admission arrangement is available at the ticket booth for a qualifying accompanying caregiver. Confirm the appropriate procedure before counting a companion as automatically covered.

## Hearing, vision and assistance arrangements

An American Sign Language tour with captions and a written audio script are offered for visitors with hearing impairments. An audio-descriptive tour covers highlights for blind and low-vision visitors. The museum states that these tour options are included in admission.

Visitors without a sighted companion can request a volunteer docent to assist with the audio-descriptive experience. The museum asks for contact with Visitor Information forty-eight hours beforehand. Arrange that help before arrival rather than assuming an immediate guide is always available.

Trained service animals are welcomed under the museum's conditions, but ladders and confined spaces can limit some areas. Pets and comfort animals are not admitted under that rule. Ask about your intended visit if the layout affects the service animal's work.

## Children's free entry and the dated October offer

Children aged three and under receive free admission through the museum's stated ticket-booth procedure. Do not replace that year-round threshold with an old seller's claim that every under-six child is free.

The museum also published Kids Free for 1–31 October 2026: up to two children aged four to twelve with one full-price adult ticket, online or at the booth. Its online instructions require the KidsFree code in the shopping cart and allow only one promotional code per transaction.

This is a dated offer, not a permanent promise for all months or future years. Check the current programme if travelling after those dates. Free museum admission under the offer does not remove the separate charges or height conditions for paid rides.

## Documents, passes and purchase conditions

The museum lists particular U.S. military and veteran benefits with appropriate identification. They should not be extended to every visitor who has served in another country's forces. Other access programmes also have their own qualifying documents.

If you hold an attraction pass, confirm the exact product and included admission before buying a duplicate ticket. Our [San Diego CityPASS comparison](https://roadme.io/blog/san-diego-citypass-packages-reservations-value/) explains the package decision. It does not turn optional onboard purchases into pass inclusions.

Check the seller's date, cancellation and redemption instructions before payment. A third-party voucher and the museum's own ticket can have different procedures. A “skip the line” offer does not exempt you from the museum's bag check or other entry requirements.

## Bags, shoes and returning the same day

All visitors are subject to a bag check. The museum excludes outside food and drink, glass containers, pets, bicycles, scooters and weapons; its allowed-item guidance includes clear plastic bottles, strollers and qualifying service animals. Check particular needs before arriving with bulky belongings.

Shirts and shoes are required. Comfortable closed-toe shoes are recommended because a visit can involve substantial walking and ladders; layers help with different conditions around the ship. A stroller being allowed aboard does not make every narrow route suitable for it.

Same-day re-entry is permitted, with arrangements through Visitor Information at the ship's exit. Ask before leaving and keep the ticket. Re-entry remains within the day's operating hours; it does not extend closing or preserve a place in a tour line.

## A real ship, with time to understand its spaces

USS Midway entered service in 1945 and became a museum in 2004\. Its interest goes beyond the aircraft on top: galleys, working areas and living quarters help explain how a carrier functioned as a community at sea. It is a retired ship adapted for visitors, with the physical limits of that history.

Our [independent trip planning guide](https://roadme.io/blog/how-to-plan-your-first-independent-trip-from-idea-to-departure/) helps connect the visit with travel, meals and flexible time. Give the ship a clear purpose in the stay instead of treating it as a quick photograph between unrelated bookings.

> With [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io), it is more convenient to work out the whole personalised trip around your interests and available time. Plan San Diego in the app, then choose the museum day and optional extras that fit that experience comfortably.

Before buying, confirm the age category, audio language, realistic visit time and any assistance needed. Budget for simulators separately, and keep a capacity-limited climb optional. That makes the ordinary ticket easier to understand and the actual day easier to enjoy.
