San Diego CityPASS is most relevant when you already want to visit SeaWorld, LEGOLAND California or both, alongside three other eligible attractions. It is not a general credit that you can spend on any combination of museums. Choose the package around the parks you genuinely want, then compare its complete cost with tickets for the same visits bought separately.

Information checked on 26 October 2026\. This guide explains the San Diego product, its reservations and a practical savings calculation. Attraction availability, admission details and prices can change. Check the current package and your dates before paying; a headline discount is not a promise of savings for every family.

## Start with the package, not the discount

| Package | Main park admission | Additional choices | Total visits |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------- | ------------ |
| SeaWorld package | SeaWorld San Diego | Three eligible attractions | Four |
| LEGOLAND package | LEGOLAND California, with the listed SEA LIFE admission | Three eligible attractions | Four |
| Combined package | SeaWorld and LEGOLAND California | Three eligible attractions | Five |

The main park is part of the package you buy. You cannot treat it as a spare choice and exchange it for another museum. If neither main park appeals to you, compare individual admissions before looking for ways to fill the package.

> Try [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) before committing to a collection of tickets: in supported cities, the app develops a complete personal trip plan around your interests, dates and pace. Keeping that plan in the app makes it easier to choose visits that belong in your holiday.

A good shortlist begins with what each traveller wants to do. Mark a park as essential only if you would buy its admission without a bundle. An expensive activity that you would otherwise skip does not become a genuine saving merely because it is included.

## Three choices, with one important either-or

The additional selection currently comprises the Zoo or Safari Park, USS Midway Museum, City Cruises, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, Old Town Trolley Tours and the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Choose three eligible entries from this selection.

**San Diego Zoo and Safari Park share one choice.** Selecting that entry gives you one of the two parks, not both. They are separate destinations, and the shared wording should not be read as a combined two-park admission.

If you want both, make a separate comparison: your selected CityPASS plus the other park's ticket, versus a suitable direct multi-park product and any other admissions. Do not assume the pass is still cheaper after adding the missing visit.

The three additional attractions do not need to be chosen at the purchase stage. That flexibility helps if you are deciding between a ship museum and an aquarium, but it does not remove reservation requirements or guarantee a place on a particular cruise.

## What the visits actually cover

SeaWorld is a single-day admission with the experiences listed in the current package. LEGOLAND California's listed admission includes SEA LIFE Aquarium. Do not silently add the Water Park, priority ride access, meals or every seasonal event to either park benefit.

The two animal parks offer different days: the Zoo is in Balboa Park, while Safari Park is a separate destination near Escondido. Check the actual journey from your accommodation. A shared ticket category does not mean neighbouring entrances or interchangeable transport arrangements.

USS Midway is an aircraft-carrier museum with a self-guided audio visit and its listed theatre experience. The Maritime Museum covers a different collection of historic ships. They are separate attractions, not two names for the same museum.

City Cruises currently supplies the listed 90-minute Best of the Bay sightseeing cruise. Birch Aquarium is an aquarium visit; Old Town Trolley provides the specified one-day sightseeing service with reboarding. Neither a cruise nor a trolley benefit is a universal transport ticket for your entire stay.

## Prices: compare the amount you will actually pay

At the check date, the direct adult totals, including the displayed per-ticket processing fee, are USD 171 for SeaWorld plus three, USD 188 for LEGOLAND plus three, and USD 241 for both parks plus three. Adult pricing here starts at age 13; the child category is ages 3–12.

These are dated purchase benchmarks, not guaranteed future charges or an all-expenses holiday budget. Recheck the selected package, number of travellers and final checkout. A reseller can have a different fee arrangement and cancellation conditions.

Compare prices in the currency actually charged. If your card account uses another currency, allow for its exchange conditions and any issuer fee. A familiar-currency display can make comparison easier without guaranteeing the amount eventually debited.

Do not transfer a child price from one attraction to every other attraction. Age bands differ. Build the comparison for each traveller's real age, particularly near a cutoff, and use admission categories that the attraction would actually sell to that person.

## A savings calculation without imaginary savings

1. Write down the main park and three additional visits you genuinely want.
2. Find their bookable individual prices for your dates and ages.
3. Match the included admission: one day, the same aquarium access, the same cruise or sightseeing product.
4. Add unavoidable ticket charges on both sides.
5. Compare that total with the full package quote, then remove one uncertain visit and calculate again.

The last step is useful because plans rarely fail evenly. If the cruise is the only uncertain part, test the purchase without assigning any savings to that cruise. You will see whether the package still makes sense without forcing a visit that the family may not manage.

The advertised maximum discount uses the operator's specified comparison method and reference prices. Your dates may offer cheaper advance tickets, a family promotion or a relevant concession. Use a discount you can actually claim rather than a full gate price you would never pay.

Keep common costs separate. If you would pay the same parking charge with either ticket choice, it does not change the ticket saving, but it still belongs in your holiday budget. If the package encourages an extra long journey, that additional journey does change the personal comparison.

Our guide to [building a travel budget](https://roadme.io/blog/how-to-budget-for-a-trip-and-include-costs-you-might-forget/) helps distinguish admission savings from the overall cost of the day. A cheaper ticket collection can still lead to a more expensive trip if it adds visits, transport and meals you did not want.

## Nine consecutive days are a window, not nine entries

The current use period is nine consecutive calendar days, starting with the first attraction visit or earliest reservation date. A first relevant date on the 10th makes the 18th the last day of that window. A beach day in between does not pause the count.

An entirely unused purchase has a separate start deadline: the current product allows one year from purchase to begin. That does not mean you can keep an activated package open for a year, and it does not override the validity of a specific reservation.

The reservation date matters here, not simply the moment when you make a booking. If an earlier reservation remains in the system after your plans change, check and amend it rather than assuming the clock will follow a later visit.

Admission is normally once per included attraction unless its listed benefit explicitly says otherwise. Trolley reboarding during its included day is a specific feature; it does not turn the Zoo or a museum into an unlimited-return ticket.

## Reservations: LEGOLAND and the cruise need attention

The current San Diego CityPASS page specifically requires reservations for LEGOLAND California and City Cruises. After purchase, use the instructions in My CityPASS to reserve the eligible visit. Buying the package is not itself a confirmed place on your chosen sailing.

Check availability early for a visit that determines the value of the package. Keep the confirmation, the required ticket and any arrival instructions together. A payment receipt, a reservation request and an admission barcode can be different documents.

For other attractions, follow the entry instructions attached to your product. Do not copy a reservation list from an old seller PDF or from a different CityPASS destination. Requirements can change, and the relevant version is the one issued for your purchase.

A booking time may require earlier check-in. Work backwards from the stated meeting or boarding instructions, allowing travel and a buffer. Do not place the previous attraction's closing minutes immediately before a fixed departure.

## Give the main parks enough room

A package permitting several visits in a day does not tell you whether that day will be enjoyable. SeaWorld and LEGOLAND can take substantial time, especially with children. Treat them as significant commitments before attaching another ticketed experience.

LEGOLAND California is in Carlsbad. Safari Park is near Escondido. The word San Diego on a package is a destination label, not a guarantee that every attraction is a short walk from a downtown hotel. Check actual addresses and return journeys.

Group visits by practical location and by the energy they need. A long outdoor park day, a ship with ladders and an aquarium are not interchangeable units merely because each consumes one entry. Comfort and access requirements can change the sensible selection.

Leave room for food, rest and free time. Use the nine-day window to spread suitable visits, not to justify buying more than you want. If you have only a short usable stay, evaluate that stay rather than the theoretical maximum validity.

## Children, access and extras

For a child below the pass age range, check every selected attraction's own admission and reservation rules. Free entry by age does not automatically mean no reservation or no requirement to accompany a paying adult.

For school-age children, check ride height restrictions before counting theme-park attractions as the main benefit. A valid admission ticket does not remove a ride's safety limits or make every experience suitable for every child.

For reduced mobility, review the actual venue rather than the package's general description. Ships, outdoor paths, queues and boarding arrangements can pose different challenges. Ask about the parts of a visit that matter to your group before making an inflexible purchase.

Parking is not included in the general San Diego CityPASS benefit. Meals, special encounters, simulator experiences and priority access should also be treated as separate unless the exact admission description includes them. Avoid budgeting from a photograph that shows an optional extra.

## Why the ship museums deserve more than a quick scan

USS Midway entered service in 1945 and opened as a San Diego museum in 2004\. The interest is not just its outline on the waterfront: seeing working and living spaces helps explain how a large aircraft carrier functioned as a small floating community.

The Maritime Museum offers a different way into maritime history through its historic vessels and exhibits. Choose by the experience you want, not only the more expensive ticket. A lower-priced museum that holds your interest can be a better use of an afternoon than a costly activity you rush through.

Audioguides, exhibits and a rest break take time. A pass should support understanding a place, rather than make you race between admission desks.

## Refunds and changing a group booking

The current general direct policy permits a full refund of an entirely unused eligible product within 365 days. Existing reservations must be dealt with under the policy; a partially used package is not normally refunded because one remaining visit no longer fits.

If you bought through a third party, begin any refund request with that seller. Do not assume direct-purchase flexibility applies to a reseller offer. Read the actual cancellation terms before exchanging a small price reduction for a restrictive booking.

Tickets are personal and non-transferable. Do not plan to share one person's remaining choices among companions. If travellers want to split into different visiting groups or times, check the order arrangement before making reservations; the operator may need to help separate it.

For the general distinction between a reservation, a ticket and the admission it permits, see our [museum ticket and booking guide](https://roadme.io/blog/museum-exhibition-tickets-times-concessions-refunds/). Keeping those separate avoids treating a payment confirmation as a guaranteed entry time.

## San Diego is not Southern California CityPASS

Check the full product name before using a comparison article. Southern California CityPASS is another product with different parks and rules. Information about Disneyland, Universal Studios or a different validity window should not be imported into the San Diego package.

Likewise, Go City is a different provider. A product that counts days, a smaller selection package and San Diego CityPASS cannot be compared merely by their headline entry price. Match the experiences and the usable dates first.

The sensible alternative may simply be separate tickets. That is particularly relevant when you want neither main theme park, have only one or two paid priorities, or benefit from a specific promotion that a bundle does not reproduce.

## The final decision before paying

Check five things together: the correct main park, three genuinely wanted choices, usable dates, required reservations and the final total. Then ask whether the plan still feels comfortable if one optional visit disappears.

> Let [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) develop the wider personal city programme around your interests and preferred pace in supported destinations. Following that plan in the app is more convenient than reorganising every day around unused admissions.

Buy when the package matches the trip you want and beats comparable admissions. Leave it when savings depend on unwanted activities or unavailable reservations.
