For Nice buses and trams, choose a Lignes d’Azur travel product and a compatible carrier before boarding. For a short visit the useful comparison is between individual journeys, Multi voyages and a one-, two- or seven-day pass. The card itself is not a fare, a phone that reloads a card is not necessarily a ticket, and an ordinary city product is not automatically a Riviera rail pass.

Conditions checked on 27 October 2026 against the operator's current pages and October 2026 fare guide. The website has changed: older links can fail even while a new version of the same information exists. Check the current product rather than relying on an old bookmarked page or a screenshot of a machine.

## Choose from your useful journeys

> Try [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) to develop a complete personal trip plan around your interests, dates and preferred pace in supported destinations. Using that plan in the app makes it easier to identify useful transport instead of arranging extra journeys simply to justify a pass.

For accommodation close to the places you want to explore, start with occasional journeys. For repeated trips between your hotel and different areas, compare a time pass. A holiday lasting a week does not automatically need a seven-day product: you may spend some days walking or using another network.

Separate three decisions: what service you will board, what ticket covers it and what medium carries that ticket. A bank-card payment at a machine answers only how you bought the product. It does not establish that the bank card itself can be used as the ticket on board.

Our guide to [public transport tickets, zones and validation](https://roadme.io/blog/public-transport-abroad-tickets-zones-validation/) explains this method more generally. In Nice, the particularly useful local distinctions are the anonymous card, the personal card, mobile ticket storage and the timed transfer rules.

## La Carte, Ma Carte and the travel product

La Carte is the anonymous rechargeable carrier for occasional travel. Its EUR 2 charge is refundable through the operator's stated agency, mobile agency and sales-point channels. It is not a free journey or a refundable cash wallet. A carrier deposit and unused tickets are different things.

Ma Carte is personal, with a name and photo, and supports subscriptions as well as occasional products. Its EUR 2 carrier cost is not refundable. For a brief ordinary visit, do not begin a subscription application merely because the two names look similar.

The anonymous carrier can be transferred, but the selected travel product still has conditions. Multi voyages explicitly allows simultaneous travel by several people, with separate validation for each. Do not extend that permission to every unlimited or personalised product simply because it is stored on a card.

Loss matters too. The current guide says the anonymous card's loaded tickets are not replaced after loss or theft. A receipt can help explain a purchase problem, but it is not a substitute for the carrier or a promise to recover every remaining ride. Avoid loading far more travel than you expect to use.

## Current fares for occasional travel

| Product | Published price | What to compare |
| ----------------------- | --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Solo | EUR 1.70 | One eligible journey with timed transfers |
| Anonymous card | EUR 2 | Carrier, separate from a loaded fare |
| Pass 1 jour | EUR 7 | 24 hours from first validation |
| Pass 2 jours | EUR 13 | 48 hours from first validation |
| Pass 7 jours | EUR 20 | Consecutive validity from first use |
| 1 aller-retour Aéroport | EUR 10 | Specific airport return product, not a city-day pass |

Multi voyages begins at the published single-journey rate and has decreasing fare tiers according to the quantity purchased. Read the final price for the actual quantity instead of multiplying the cheapest tier by every trip. It is not necessary to assume that the only option is an old fixed ten-ticket carnet.

The network also offers longer passes and other products. The table focuses on a visitor's immediate choice rather than subscriptions, social concessions or every available duration. A low monthly rate found elsewhere may belong to a different personal profile and application process.

Our [trip budget guide](https://roadme.io/blog/how-to-budget-for-a-trip-and-include-costs-you-might-forget/) compares complete spending. Include a required carrier and any journeys outside coverage. Keep the local euro fare separate from your provider's currency conversion and charges; the table cannot guarantee the final debit from every international bank account.

## What the 74-minute transfer rule actually means

Solo covers an eligible journey with transfers during the 74 minutes following first validation. A transfer window is not an unlimited sightseeing period. The operator specifically excludes a return journey on Solo, so do not assume that coming back before the clock expires makes the return free.

For Multi voyages, the current page also states the 74-minute connection period. Validate at first boarding and at each transfer. A successful earlier read does not remove the need to present the carrier again when changing vehicles.

Keep the same valid carrier available throughout the journey and wait for the reader's acceptance. Do not assume that touching a wallet containing several contactless cards recorded the one you intended. A bank notification or screenshot of a purchase does not demonstrate a transport validation.

Count separately charged journeys rather than simply counting vehicles. A valid bus-to-tram connection and a new independent trip later in the day are not necessarily charged in the same way. If the timing or direction falls outside the product conditions, obtain the appropriate new travel entitlement.

## One day means a rolling 24-hour pass

Pass 1 jour runs for 24 hours from first validation. Pass 2 jours runs for 48 hours. These are not just calendar dates that expire at midnight. Starting in the afternoon can therefore cover a useful part of the following day, provided it remains within the valid period.

Pass 7 jours begins with first use and runs consecutively. A rest day or excursion on another network does not pause it. Choose based on your first and last useful city journeys rather than equating the number of hotel nights with the number of needed pass days.

Compare the same transport needs under both options. If you walk most of the day, do not add hypothetical tram trips just to make the pass appear economical. If frequent movement is important, the ability to travel without repeated ticket decisions may be worth a modest extra cost.

Product validity does not guarantee that a line is operating. A pass can be valid while works change the evening service. Ticket choice and checking the departure you actually need are separate tasks, especially before a late return to accommodation.

## Sharing Multi voyages without losing track

The operator explicitly permits several travellers to use Multi voyages simultaneously. Validate for every passenger on the first boarding and again for every passenger at each connection. One tap is not a declaration that everyone nearby is covered.

Keep the travelling group with the carrier so that the valid product remains available at inspection. If one person leaves with it, the others cannot rely on a photograph of the card. Decide in advance whether you will stay together for the transport part of the day.

A shared bundle can be convenient for a couple making occasional journeys together. Separate carriers may be simpler when interests differ or one person wants to return earlier. Compare practical access to the ticket, not only the amount saved on a second card.

Group permission for Multi voyages is not a universal pass-sharing rule. A personal subscription or time product retains its own conditions. If you want unlimited travel for several people, confirm the number of valid products and carriers needed rather than trying repeated taps on an unsuitable ticket.

## Buying in advance is simpler than emergency boarding

Use tram-station machines, authorised sales points, agencies or the compatible ticket app according to the chosen product. Distinguish buying a new card from reloading one you already have. Read the loaded ticket name and quantity, not just the carrier label.

On buses, the emergency Solo secours is a specific purchase, not the full menu available at a station machine. The fare component is EUR 2 and the rechargeable anonymous carrier adds EUR 2, making EUR 4 for the stated onboard issue. The carrier component is not another journey.

The operator's FAQ describes onboard purchase in cash, with the correct amount requested, rather than a general promise of bank-card sales by every driver. Prepare a ticket before boarding whenever possible. Do not board assuming the driver can sell the same weekly product you saw online.

If you need a refund of the anonymous carrier, follow the operator's named channels and conditions. Do not assume it is automatically credited to a bank account after the final ride. Returning a physical carrier and recovering unused fares are separate requests.

## Phone use: reloading and travelling are not the same

The operator's page checked for this article describes compatible Android phones as able to buy and load travel onto the phone or a Lignes d’Azur card. Its iPhone section describes reloading a physical contactless card. Follow the actual supported function, not the assumption that installing an app makes any phone a ticket.

In the physical-card method, the phone helps write the purchase onto the card, and the card remains the transport medium. Hold it as instructed until the operation finishes, then check the loaded content. A payment receipt alone does not prove that the writing stage completed.

In a supported phone-as-ticket setup, keep the actual device available for validation and inspection. Do not expect a screenshot, a different phone or a bank-wallet card to reproduce that entitlement. Check compatibility and configuration before your first queue.

Mobile services can change. Use the operator's current compatibility guidance if it differs from an older guide, and confirm that the feature is actually available to you. An announced future function, app-store presence or contactless symbol is not evidence of completed setup on your device.

## Online purchase still needs a usable loaded title

The current operator page says products bought online or through the app must be loaded or activated within two months of purchase. Buying very early does not mean an uncompleted order remains available indefinitely. Complete the required loading step in good time.

This loading deadline is different from the start of a time pass at first validation. Do not combine the two into a claim that every purchase immediately starts its travel clock, or that an unactivated order is already accepted on board. Check order status and carrier content separately.

Keep the purchase evidence until you know the ticket is usable. If a loading operation fails, ask the operator or the actual seller before buying repeatedly. The appropriate remedy depends on product, carrier and sales channel; a general blog cannot promise the same refund for every situation.

For international visitors, payment acceptance and authentication vary by issuer and setup. Prepare an available payment method and required connectivity. Do not share private bank details with an improvised helper just because a machine or phone operation is unfamiliar.

## Airport, regional buses and trains: check the boundary

The EUR 10 Aéroport product is explicitly a return airport ticket with its own conditions. It is not an unlimited city pass, and its price should not be presented as the universal cost of every Nice tram journey. Choose it from your actual airport needs and available carrier options.

Ordinary Lignes d’Azur products concern the urban network and exclude services with special pricing. A regional ZOU bus or a TER train is a different ticketing question. A destination appearing in an app or itinerary does not prove that the ordinary city ticket covers every stage.

For repeated regional travel, the separate SudAzur Explore offer is worth comparing because it covers a defined combination of trains, buses and trams. Check its actual area and services rather than assuming a seven-day Lignes d’Azur pass has the same multimodal scope.

Likewise, an attractions pass is not automatically a public transport pass. The current French Riviera Pass FAQ says ordinary buses, trams and trains are not included. Read a bundle's actual inclusions rather than treating a sightseeing bus or tourist train as evidence of unlimited urban transport.

## Check the evening service before relying on a pass

At the time of checking, Lignes d’Azur lists evening maintenance affecting tram lines 2, 3 and B on specified dates from late October into early December 2026\. The arrangements differ by date. Do not turn that notice into a claim that all three lines are closed every evening throughout the period.

Before a late journey, check the actual line, direction, last departure and any replacement arrangement for that date. A substitute may not follow the tram's complete route. Allow time for the change rather than transferring a generic daytime journey estimate into the evening.

Before purchase, confirm the network, required number of travellers, useful duration and reliable carrier. Then validate as required each time. This compact routine is more useful than memorising every fare in a system you will only use for several days.

> Let [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) work out a personal sightseeing plan that fits your interests and comfortable pace in supported cities. Following it in the app makes nearby visits easier to combine, so transport supports your trip rather than becoming the reason to add unnecessary stops.

Keep the carrier and purchase evidence accessible, and retain a practical alternative if a device or line becomes unavailable. The best product is the one covering your real journeys with understandable rules, not simply the longest duration or the smallest price printed in a search result.
