For Louvre tickets, first establish the correct admission category, then choose the date and time. The current individual rates are €22 for eligible EEA citizens or residents and €32 for visitors who are neither. Under-18s and eligible EEA visitors under 26 can enter free, but free admission and a reserved entry slot are different questions.

Information checked on 27 October 2026\. A temporary notice makes reservations compulsory from 17 October to 1 November 2026, with listed exceptions. Check the current notice before relying on the museum's more general recommendation to book. No availability or payment on a particular date is claimed here.

## Choose the category before the price

Do not select the €22 rate simply because you are arriving from another European city or holding a short-stay tourist visa. The Louvre distinguishes citizenship and qualifying residence in the European Economic Area. The residence evidence described by the museum includes a residence permit or a visa longer than three months.

> For destinations supported by [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io), let the app develop a personal trip plan around your interests and preferred pace. Planning in the app makes it easier to choose a useful museum slot and leave comfortable space around it.

The EEA category includes EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It is not a synonym for every country geographically in Europe. Check your actual citizenship or residence evidence rather than inferring eligibility from the language you speak, the country of your hotel booking or the currency on your bank card.

A visitor with non-EEA citizenship may still qualify through the residence conditions, while someone without either qualifying link uses the non-EEA category unless another free-admission condition applies. If your document does not clearly fit, clarify it with the museum before paying instead of assuming that a cheaper choice can be explained at the entrance.

## Current rates and what admission includes

| Visitor situation | Admission reference | What to verify |
| ------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Qualifying EEA citizenship or residence | €22 | Appropriate current identity or residence evidence. |
| Neither qualifying EEA citizenship nor residence | €32 | Whether another stated free category applies. |
| Under 18 | Free | Age evidence and the required booking. |
| Eligible EEA citizen or resident under 26 | Free | The museum's age and documentation conditions. |
| Another free-admission category | According to eligibility | Specific proof, booking rules and any companion entitlement. |

The museum's current tariff took effect on 14 January 2026\. An admission ticket covers the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, with the conditions for the selected visit. It is not an all-inclusive bundle of every guided activity, audio service or event advertised by the museum.

The ticket also provides the stated admission to the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix on the same day or the next opening day. That museum has its own hours and closures. Check them before assigning value to this benefit; it is not a second Louvre visit or permission to return after leaving the Louvre.

A workshop or guided activity may need both its activity booking and museum admission. A visitor eligible for free entry can still face a separate activity price. Read the components instead of assuming that a lower activity amount is a complete admission ticket.

## Who can enter free?

Under-18s qualify irrespective of nationality under the museum's published conditions, with the required proof. For the under-26 category, the current page separately lists eligible EEA citizens and qualifying EEA residents. Being under 26 by itself is not enough for everyone.

Bring the photographic identity document and residence evidence specified for your situation. For residence-based eligibility, the museum describes a named, photographic long-term document, such as the qualifying permit or visa. Do not treat a hotel confirmation or a short visit to an EEA country as equivalent evidence.

The museum also lists other free categories, including disabled visitors and an accompanying person, as well as particular professional or social categories with their own proofs. Use the actual conditions, not a general assumption that every teacher, student, job seeker or press-related visitor qualifies.

The Louvre says it does not sell a general concession admission ticket. Its EEA/non-EEA rates, free-admission categories and reduced activity prices are separate arrangements. A student card is not a universal coupon that converts a paid visitor into a discounted museum entrant.

## Reserve free visitors and children together

When booking a family or mixed group, list every person in the appropriate category and select the same intended visit slot. The children's FAQ recommends selecting the free-admission option for under-18s. During a compulsory-reservation period, follow the stronger dated instruction and its actual exceptions.

Check that each required ticket was issued. An adult ticket does not automatically document every accompanying child, and a free price does not create unlimited capacity. If you cannot secure the needed combination, resolve it before paying for only part of the party.

Keep eligibility documents accessible with the tickets. It is much easier to check names and categories at the hotel than at the head of a queue. If someone has a separate membership or access entitlement, read whether it covers that person alone or also a companion before omitting a reservation.

## Is a reservation compulsory?

The museum generally strongly recommends advance time-slot booking, including for free visitors. It says some same-day tickets can be issued at the cash desks, without priority at security and without a waiting list. This is a possibility under the general arrangements, not a guarantee of admission whenever you arrive.

More specific dated notices can make reservations obligatory. At the time of this check, that applies from 17 October through 1 November 2026, except for the museum's listed categories. Do not plan a walk-up visit during that period from the general FAQ alone. Recheck the notice if travelling after its stated dates.

A museum pass or membership is not automatically a reservation. Read the rules for your exact card and the period of travel. Some exceptions concern only the cardholder, while an accompanying person still needs a slot. The existence of a cardholder exception does not extend it to everyone in the party.

## How to book through the official route

1. Start from the Louvre's own website and follow its official ticketing link.
2. Choose museum admission or the activity you actually want, checking whether admission is included.
3. Select a date and entry time, then the correct quantity and visitor categories.
4. Enter the ticket holders' details and review every name.
5. Create or use the ticketing account, read the conditions and check the final order.
6. Complete payment and save both confirmation and issued ticket PDFs.

The museum's online-purchase instructions describe card payment with a bank security check. Make sure you can complete your own bank's verification while travelling. An accepted card logo does not guarantee approval by every issuing bank, and reaching the payment screen is not proof that an order has succeeded.

After successful payment, the museum describes an order confirmation and email containing the tickets in PDF form. They can be printed or downloaded to a mobile device. Check the account and received files if the email is missing; do not immediately place another paid order while the first transaction's status is unclear.

Tickets are named and non-transferable, and identity may be checked at entry. Use the real visitor's details rather than buying spare anonymous tickets for an undecided friend. Correct an uncertainty with the museum before purchase instead of assuming that an unused name can be changed later.

## What the booked time means

A time-stamped ticket gives reserved access through the appropriate line under the museum's current arrangements. It does not eliminate security screening or promise entry in zero minutes. Leave time for reaching the correct entrance, handling bags and finding the line matching your ticket.

The Louvre's FAQ says that arriving outside the allocated slot subjects the visitor to the same entry and waiting conditions as those without tickets, using the Pyramid access. Do not interpret that as guaranteed late admission. Keep the booked appointment and read the instructions accompanying your ticket.

Choose a realistic slot after a train arrival, flight or another fixed appointment. A lower price or attractive afternoon time is not useful if a normal delay leaves no margin. For a group, agree on one meeting time and make sure the person carrying the tickets can access every document.

## Hours, exits and room closures

The published regular schedule closes the Louvre on Tuesdays. Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday opening is 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday extend to 9 p.m. The museum also lists closure on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December. Exceptional notices can alter the normal arrangements.

Last admission is one hour before closing, and galleries begin clearing 30 minutes before closing. A late slot therefore does not provide the same viewing time as a morning one. Use the available time honestly rather than equating the closing hour with the last possible moment to start exploring.

Any exit is final under the museum's rules. Do not plan to leave for an outside lunch and return with the same ticket as though it were a day pass with unlimited entries. Decide what you want to do before exiting and ask staff if you are uncertain whether a boundary leads outside admission.

Some galleries may close for works or operational reasons. A general admission ticket does not guarantee every room or individual work on the day. If your decision depends on a particular collection, check the current room-closure schedule before buying and again near the visit.

## Free evenings are a separate booking decision

The published free programme includes the first Friday of the month after 6 p.m., except July and August, and 14 July subject to the museum's opening rules. Do not assume every Friday evening is free. The free-entry FAQ says booking is required and slots are released a few days before the relevant date.

Free does not mean unlimited places or unlimited time. An evening visit has its own shorter available window and the normal security and closing procedures. Check the actual calendar rather than buying a paid ticket in the expectation of automatically obtaining a refund because the date later proves to be free.

If your plans are fixed and no suitable free slot is available, compare an ordinary paid date you can actually use. A speculative free evening is not equivalent to a confirmed reservation. Keep the rest of the trip flexible until the necessary ticket has been issued.

## Changes, cancellation and refunds

The museum's standard admission FAQ states that booked dates and times cannot be modified and tickets are not ordinarily exchanged or refunded. Do not rely on a general assumption of a cooling-off period for this dated leisure booking. Read the conditions presented with the order before paying.

Exceptions for the museum cancelling a service or processing an order incorrectly are handled under its terms. The museum's refund-help page directs an eligible request within one month of the service date through its stated process. Sending a request is not, by itself, an approval of compensation.

A seller's flexible guided-package promise is a condition of that particular package, not a change to the Louvre's ordinary ticket rules. Check whether the whole booking or only one service can be cancelled and what documents are issued. Our [guide to museum tickets, concessions and refunds](https://roadme.io/blog/museum-exhibition-tickets-times-concessions-refunds/) explains how to compare those distinctions.

## Entrances, bags and avoiding misleading offers

The Pyramid is the main entrance for individual visitors, with separate lines for different categories. The Carrousel can be useful under its current access rules; Richelieu is reserved for specified groups, activities and cardholders. An entrance name in a travel article is not a guarantee that it is open to your category at every hour.

Check the museum's current entrance information and your ticket instructions. Do not buy an alleged priority product merely because it promises a side door. Everyone must undergo security checks, and the museum explicitly warns about mirror sites and misleading queue-jumping ticket offers.

Suitcases and large bags are not allowed. The current limit excludes items exceeding 55 × 35 × 20 cm, including the welcome area and galleries. Free lockers are for smaller permitted items, with collection the same day; they are not a solution for bringing prohibited full-size luggage to your slot.

Keep the ticket on a charged phone or carry the permitted printed PDF, together with eligibility evidence. If you are still choosing between Paris museums, our [comparison of the Louvre, Orsay and Orangerie](https://roadme.io/blog/louvre-orsay-orangerie-which-museum-first-trip/) addresses that separate decision before you commit to a booking.

> Once your museum time is fixed, [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) can develop a personal plan for supported destinations around the experiences that matter to you. Coordinating visits and a comfortable pace in the app is easier than fitting unrelated ideas around every reservation by hand.

A successful booking has the correct category, evidence, date, time and issued tickets for everyone who needs them. Check those details before looking for optional extras. You can then arrive prepared, without expecting a free category, pass or priority label to provide permissions it does not contain.
