The Cinque Terre Card is not compulsory simply to explore the villages. It pays for specified services: the Trekking version covers the Park's paid walking access and other benefits, while the Train version adds unlimited regional rail journeys within its area. The right choice depends on the journeys and activities you actually intend to use.

For 2026, the main products are Trekking and Treno, also described as Train or Treno MS. The former Plus category has been removed, and Via dell'Amore is included in both main cards, with a reservation still required. This guide uses conditions checked on 25 October 2026; tariffs, closures and train works should be checked again for your visit.

## Choose the kind of day before choosing the card

> Preparing the whole trip is more convenient with [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io): the app creates a personalized plan around your interests, available time and preferred pace. Use that plan to see which journeys and experiences you genuinely need before paying for a pass.

Separate three questions: will you use a paid trail, how many rail journeys will you make, and do you want a reserved Via dell'Amore visit? A day spent in one village is different from a day with several separate train rides. A long walk also does not automatically mean the rail-inclusive card is best.

If you only want village streets, a harbour and time beside the sea, you do not need to buy a trekking product just to be there. You still need the appropriate transport ticket for getting around. If you plan paid walking access with little rail travel, compare Trekking plus individual train tickets. For repeated regional journeys, compare the Train Card.

Count realistic travel rather than the maximum number of villages you might squeeze in. Changing trains, reaching platforms and waiting all use time. The ability to ride repeatedly can be convenient, but extra rides created solely to make a pass look worthwhile are not a saving.

## Trekking and Train: the important differences

| Service | Trekking Card | Train Card |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ | ------------------------------ |
| Specified paid Blue Trail sections | Included when open | Included when open |
| Via dell'Amore | Included; reservation required | Included; reservation required |
| Local buses in the Cinque Terre villages | Included services | Included services |
| Regional rail, second class, Levanto–La Spezia | Not included | Unlimited during validity |
| Ferries and Intercity trains | Not included | Not included |

The paid walking access concerns Via dell'Amore and the Blue Trail sections between Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia. It is not a general admission charge for every public street or every trail in the National Park. Equally, a listed trail is not necessarily open on your date: access conditions override the card.

Both products include other specified Park services, including scheduled guided activities, certain toilets and cultural benefits. The current offer includes CAMeC in La Spezia and Podere Case Lovara, subject to their visiting arrangements. Other civic museums may offer reduced admission rather than free entry. Do not assume every museum, bus or organized activity in Liguria is covered.

These extras are useful when they match your plans. A scheduled Park walk is not a private guide available whenever you arrive; a participating museum has its own opening hours. Choose for services you will actually use, rather than treating the whole list as a guaranteed programme.

## Prices depend on both date and product

The following are the published one-day adult prices for ages 12–69\. For the Train Card, the three attendance bands apply from 14 March to 1 November 2026\. Trekking uses its own standard and high-attendance calendar; do not simply transfer a colour or category from one product to the other.

| Product and period | One-day adult price |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------- |
| Train Card, band A | €22 |
| Train Card, band B | €29.50 |
| Train Card, band C | €35 |
| Trekking Card, standard dates | €10 |
| Trekking Card, high-attendance dates | €15 |
| Train Card, 2 November–31 December 2026 | €17.30 |

Choose your actual starting date in the official sales system. A month, weekday or description such as “off-season” is not precise enough to establish the price. For two- and three-day products, check the quote for the full validity period rather than multiplying the cheapest one-day figure or assuming a category yourself.

The published winter figure above has an end date. It does not establish the price for every winter or for the following year. A reduced rail-card price also does not guarantee open trails, frequent trains or summer-length visitor services.

Children from age four to under twelve have their own tariffs, and reductions are listed for travellers aged seventy and over. Family products have specific eligibility conditions. Check the members travelling together and their ages before comparing a family card with separate purchases.

## When the Train Card can cost less than singles

During the 2026 tariff period, published full-price single Cinque Terre journeys cost €5, €8 or €10 in bands A, B and C respectively. They are single journeys, not unlimited hop-on tickets. Check the ticket for your exact origin, destination and departure, especially when entering the area from farther away.

Here is a simple comparison for an adult travelling on a band A date, with no concession and no other included service needed. Four separate journeys at €5 cost €20, below the €22 Train Card. Five cost €25, above it. This is arithmetic using the listed tariffs, not a suggested tour or a promise that everyone will make five trips.

If you also need a standard €10 Trekking Card on the same date, three €5 train journeys plus that card total €25\. In that particular situation, the €22 Train Card is cheaper. The walking service changes the comparison: the number of rail journeys alone does not determine the answer.

Use the actual bands for both products and the fare shown for your departures. Trenitalia also publishes a lower evening tariff for qualifying regional services departing from Levanto or La Spezia Centrale after 19:30 and until 04:00\. That exception is another reason to avoid a universal rule such as “three trains always make the pass worthwhile”.

A useful calculation is therefore: individual rail tickets plus any walking card and services you need, compared with the rail-inclusive card for the same people and dates. Do not count the same trail access twice, and do not add a boat journey to the value of a card that does not include it.

## Understand the rail boundary before boarding

The core included journey area is the regional railway between Levanto, the five villages and La Spezia. This does not pay for the whole journey from Genoa, Pisa or another outside base. Check the separate segment and any applicable fare or supplement with the railway operator.

Choose a regional service covered by the product. A main-line train passing along the same coast is not automatically valid with a local card, and an Intercity ticket is a different purchase. Do not board merely because the destination appears on a departure board or the train uses the same tracks.

A single Cinque Terre ticket does not permit intermediate sightseeing stopovers. Trenitalia describes one journey to be completed within its validation conditions, including a 75-minute limit where validation applies. Getting off to explore and later continuing on another train is not the same as remaining aboard through intermediate stations.

Read the instructions for the precise ticket format you buy. A named, dated digital card and a paper single ticket do not necessarily use the same validation procedure. Keep the card and the required identity document ready for inspection. Our explanation of [transport tickets and validation](https://roadme.io/blog/public-transport-abroad-tickets-zones-validation/) helps you distinguish payment, activation and entitlement.

## Via dell'Amore: included access still needs a booking

The current Park rules include Via dell'Amore in both main cards. Do not automatically buy an old Plus product or add an old supplement quoted in a guide from a previous system. First check the present offer and select the reservation for your actual date.

The reservation provides a specific visit slot, not unrestricted access throughout the day. The visitor instructions specify entry at Riomaggiore and exit at Manarola. Follow the direction and arrival information on your confirmation, together with current notices. Having a card does not entitle you to start from any convenient end or arrive at any time.

You may reserve after buying the card, but the Park recommends booking online at purchase when possible to reduce waiting. If this visit is the main reason for buying, confirm availability before building the rest of the day around it. A card without an available slot does not guarantee the experience.

Do not confuse this controlled visit with permission to walk the entire coast continuously. Each other section needs its own status check. A familiar map line, a photograph or the reopening of one named attraction cannot establish that every neighbouring trail is usable.

## A day card expires at midnight

Validity ends at midnight on the last date shown, regardless of when you first use the card. Starting a one-day card late in the afternoon does not give you the following morning. Two- and three-day products cover consecutive calendar days, not days you may spread across a longer holiday.

Choose dates around actual use. You might need a Train Card on a day with repeated rail journeys, but individual tickets on a quieter day. Buying for every night of your accommodation booking can add unnecessary days, particularly when arrival or departure involves very little local travel.

The card is personal and non-transferable. Check names when ordering and carry a valid identity document. The Park accepts an online card in digital form, so printing is not generally mandatory. Ensure it is accessible when needed rather than depending on finding a working connection at the checkpoint.

For purchases online, the Park FAQ allows one change of date, at least 24 hours before use, within the same tariff band. Follow the procedure for the seller through which you purchased. This is not permission to change freely between differently priced dates or after the visit has started.

## Closures, weather and refunds

> Use [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) to organize a complete personal trip plan with time for travel, interests and breaks. Preparing it in the app makes it easier to choose a realistic pace while checking official transport and access notices separately.

A paid card never overrides a closure. The Park can restrict access for weather, maintenance, safety or crowd management. Check its current trail information before committing to a walking day, then check again close to departure. Do not rely on a blog's permanent statement that a trail is open.

Under an orange or red weather alert, the Park closes the trail network and suspends card sales. Yellow alerts can bring restrictions and advice against walking. Follow official notices rather than interpreting a purchased ticket or a short patch of sunshine as permission to continue.

Cards are generally non-refundable, with defined exceptions in the regulations. The Park FAQ identifies official weather alerts and other qualifying events; the conditions differ between Trekking and Train products. Ordinary light rain or a personal change of plan does not automatically create a refund right. A partially used two- or three-day card is not refundable simply because you used fewer days.

Rail works matter independently of weather. At the time of checking, the official sales site announces interruptions between Corniglia and La Spezia on 14–15 November and 19–20 December 2026, with additional overnight restrictions and later works dates. Check Trenitalia's actual journey arrangements before buying for those periods; the pass cannot guarantee a normal service.

## Buy the right product and leave room for the landscape

Use the Park's official sales channel or its information points; the Train Card is also sold through specified Trenitalia channels. Confirm the product name, date, number of days and traveller category before payment. Check whether your accommodation participates in the Park's CETS environmental quality scheme: eligible guests can obtain certain discounted cards, but an ordinary booking does not itself establish eligibility.

The cards contribute to maintaining a landscape shaped by terraced cultivation and dry-stone walls. Those walls support the slopes and need care; they are not convenient steps for leaving the path or finding a photograph. A paid visit still takes place in villages and cultivated land, rather than an attraction built solely for visitors.

Walking access also requires suitable preparation. The Park requires closed shoes with a sculpted, non-slip sole on its trails. A rail pass does not make an unplanned walk in beach footwear appropriate. Select walks for your ability and current conditions, and keep to marked open paths.

If the remaining question is where to spend time rather than which ticket to buy, our comparison of the [five Cinque Terre villages](https://roadme.io/blog/cinque-terre-villages-differences-where-to-stay/) explains their different settings and accommodation considerations. Choose the places first, count the services you need, check the date-specific total and only then purchase the card.
