Chicago CityPASS can be a good purchase if its attractions match the visits you already want to make. It can also turn an easy city break into a race through museums you would otherwise skip. The useful question is how the package compares with the tickets you would actually buy, on your dates, for every person in your party.

There are two different products to consider: the five-attraction Chicago CityPASS and the three-attraction Chicago C3\. They differ in both choice and admission level. Prices and conditions below were checked on 25 October 2026; check the current offer again before paying, especially for temporary exhibitions and timed reservations.

## Start with your interests, then choose the ticket

> Build the trip around what you enjoy with [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io): the app creates a personalized plan around your interests, available time and preferred pace. It is a more convenient way to organize the whole visit before deciding which admission package fits.

Write down the attractions you would pay to visit without a pass. Separate definite choices from places that merely look useful for increasing a savings total. Then check how much time those choices deserve: an aquarium, a large natural history museum and an art collection can each occupy a substantial part of a day.

If Shedd Aquarium and Skydeck Chicago are already priorities and three additional choices genuinely appeal, the five-attraction product deserves a close comparison. If you want only three paid attractions, or prefer to leave out either of those fixed visits, C3 gives a different kind of flexibility. Individual tickets remain a sensible option for a small or very selective list.

The pass is an admission bundle. It does not include CTA journeys, airport transfers or parking. Keep these costs, meals and any additional attractions in a separate trip budget. A lower admission total does not necessarily mean a cheaper day if using every entry creates extra journeys or unwanted expenses.

## What Chicago CityPASS and C3 actually include

| Product | Selection | Adult, age 12+ | Child, ages 3–11 |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | -------------- | ---------------- |
| Chicago CityPASS | Shedd Aquarium and Skydeck, plus three choices from six | US$144 | US$114 |
| Chicago C3 | Any three choices from nine | US$109 | US$79 |

The six optional CityPASS attractions are Shoreline Sightseeing Architecture River Tour, Field Museum, 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck, Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, Art Institute of Chicago and Adler Planetarium. You choose three of these, alongside the two fixed visits. The package does not give admission to all eight participating attractions.

C3 lets you choose three from those same eight attractions plus the Centennial Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier. The wheel is a C3 option; it is not an additional included visit in the five-attraction CityPASS. Neither product is an unlimited sightseeing card, and each selected attraction normally supplies one admission.

You do not have to select all your optional attractions before purchase. However, the ability to decide later does not guarantee a particular reservation time. Check the visits that matter most before committing, particularly if you have a short stay or a fixed departure.

## Compare the admission level, not just the attraction name

Two tickets for the same building can buy different experiences. The five-attraction pass includes several upgraded admissions, while C3 generally supplies basic entry. A comparison that prices the pass against the cheapest basic tickets tells you the minimum cash alternative; it does not show the cost of an equivalent package.

| Attraction | Five-attraction CityPASS | C3 |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| Skydeck | Expedited entry, observation deck and The Ledge | General admission, observation deck and The Ledge |
| Shedd Aquarium | General admission and a 4-D experience, subject to availability | General admission |
| Field Museum | General admission and two eligible standard add-ons | General admission |
| 360 CHICAGO | General admission with Fast Pass entry | General admission |
| Art Institute | Fast Pass admission | General admission |
| Adler Planetarium | Museum entry and two dome shows | Museum entry without dome shows |

At 360 CHICAGO, TILT is not included in either product. At the Art Institute, included entry covers the permanent collection and non-ticketed special exhibitions, rather than every separately ticketed exhibition. Field Museum add-ons are selected eligible exhibitions or films; the wording does not cover everything sold inside the museum.

The Griffin Museum package also differs between products: C3 covers permanent exhibits, while the five-attraction offer includes additional experiences specified in its current description. Check the exact selection and temporary exhibition dates before assigning those extras a value. An extra that you cannot attend, or would never buy, contributes little to your own savings.

Shoreline's included experience is its Architecture River Tour. Do not substitute another company's architecture cruise when checking departure points, conditions or prices. The current listing describes a 75-minute narrated cruise, reduced to 60 minutes from 2 November until spring. Confirm the applicable sailing rather than assuming identical year-round operation.

## Why “save up to 50%” is not your personal calculation

The issuer explains that its advertised savings use the highest published box-office prices for the highest-priced attractions over a pricing year running from March to the end of February. Special concessions, resident offers and promotions are excluded. This is a reference comparison, not a quote for the cheapest tickets available on the day you intend to visit.

Your practical comparison therefore needs two totals. First, price the same admission levels as the pass: express entry where included, the relevant museum add-ons and the shows you would use. Second, price the least expensive acceptable alternative for your actual preferences. You may value general admission more highly than an upgrade because it leaves money for another experience.

Check the final payable amount, not just a “from” price. Shedd publishes variable admission prices and says advance booking can reduce the cost. Skydeck also distinguishes general and expedited tickets. Dates, times, age categories and any checkout charges must match across the options you compare. Keep the same currency and the same people in every total.

Do not include unused visits as savings. If a five-entry package is cheaper than five equivalent tickets but you would only use three, the relevant alternative is those three tickets or C3\. Conversely, comparing five useful upgraded admissions with only three basic tickets understates what you actually intend to buy.

## A short calculation you can use before paying

Make one row per traveller and one column per desired visit. Enter the current final price of each suitable individual ticket, its admission level and whether a concession is genuinely available. Then add only the visits you expect to take. This produces a cash alternative that can be checked again if a time slot sells out.

- **Individual tickets:** the total for your chosen visits, including the extras you actually want.
- **Five-attraction CityPASS:** the appropriate pass price, plus anything outside its included admission.
- **C3:** the appropriate C3 price, plus separately purchased visits or extras beyond its three selections.

The adult difference between the two passes is US$35\. That difference buys two more admissions and changes some admission levels, but it only makes sense if the fixed visits and extra selections suit you. It is not automatically a bargain for someone who wants three unrelated attractions.

For example, a traveller interested in Field Museum, the Art Institute and Adler should compare those three acceptable individual tickets with C3\. The five-attraction package also requires paying for a structure built around Shedd and Skydeck. A visitor who actively wants those two plus three other included experiences has a different calculation. These are selection examples, not a suggested city itinerary or a promise of a saving.

## Count nine consecutive days correctly

Both products have a nine-day validity period. The first attraction visit or the date of the earliest reservation starts that period, and that day counts as day one. The issuer's example is straightforward: a first visit on the 10th gives a last valid day on the 18th. These are consecutive calendar days, not nine separate sightseeing days or nine blocks of 24 hours.

Distinguish the date on which you make a booking from the date of the visit you reserve. Reserving a November visit in October does not mean October is automatically the first use day. What matters is the scheduled visit date under the product's rule. Do not leave an earlier reservation unresolved and assume a later scan will necessarily start a fresh window.

An unused product must be started within one year of purchase. Once the nine-day period begins, taking a rest day does not pause it. Check this against a trip that leaves Chicago and returns later, or against a booking made close to the end of your stay.

## Book the important visits before filling the gaps

Current reservation requirements cover Shedd, Skydeck, Shoreline's architecture tour, 360 CHICAGO, Griffin Museum and Adler. Follow the instructions for your exact product in My CityPASS, available as an app and through a browser. Field Museum and the Art Institute are not on that mandatory list, but still read their current arrival instructions and any separate exhibition requirements.

Buying a pass is not the same as holding a confirmed time slot. Start with whichever visit would most disappoint you to miss, then arrange the rest around available times. Read the confirmation carefully: an attraction may require the CityPASS ticket, its reservation confirmation, or both. Keep each traveller's admission and booking accessible.

Fast or expedited entry only applies to the access described for that attraction. It is not a guarantee of immediate admission, an exemption from security checks or unlimited freedom to arrive at a different time. Allow time to find the correct entrance and complete the venue's procedures.

If the practical difference between time slots, ticket categories and cancellation conditions is unfamiliar, our guide to [museum and exhibition tickets](https://roadme.io/blog/museum-exhibition-tickets-times-concessions-refunds/) explains what to compare before purchase. Apply the same method to every extra you add to a pass.

## Check children and split parties separately

The pass uses adult pricing from age 12 and child pricing for ages 3–11\. Individual attractions can use different age bands. A young visitor may receive free or reduced entry at one museum while needing a paid ticket elsewhere. Price the child's actual visits separately instead of applying the adult saving percentage to the whole family.

For a child younger than the published pass age range, check each attraction's admission and reservation rules. “Free” does not necessarily remove the need for a ticket or a place on a booking. The issuer allows younger children to use a child pass, but that does not establish that buying one is the cheapest choice.

Party management also matters. In destinations with reservations, tickets in one order are reserved together. If some travellers will visit different attractions or at different times, the issuer recommends separate orders for the parties that will stay together. If you have already ordered and then decide to split up, contact Customer Care before making any attraction reservations.

## Leave room to enjoy the attractions you choose

> Use [RoadMe](https://roadme.io/?ref=roadme.io) to turn your chosen interests into a complete personalized trip plan, with time for visits, getting around and breaks. Organizing the day in the app makes it easier to choose a pass that supports the trip you want.

A museum is worth choosing for its collection, rather than its place in a package. Field Museum grew from collections associated with Chicago's 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and opened to the public in 1894\. Its natural history and cultural collections offer a very different experience from looking across the city from a tower. Choose the subject that will keep your attention, then give it room.

Likewise, the pass does not require choosing both observation decks. Since Skydeck is fixed in the five-attraction product, selecting 360 uses one of the three optional admissions. That can be worthwhile for a second perspective, but it should be a deliberate choice. Our comparison of [Skydeck and 360 CHICAGO](https://roadme.io/blog/skydeck-or-360-chicago-first-visit-observation-deck-choice-en/) helps with that separate decision.

For a boat trip, examine the actual sailing schedule and conditions; for a viewpoint, consider visibility; for a museum, check the collections or shows that interest you. Avoid stacking tightly timed visits simply to complete the package. A comfortable buffer can be more valuable than adding another attraction whose entrance fee looks expensive.

## Refunds and the final purchase check

The issuer's general policy offers refunds for entirely unused products within 365 days, subject to its conditions. Cancel existing reservations before requesting a refund. A product with a visit already used or an uncancelled reservation does not qualify under that general policy, and partially used tickets do not receive a partial refund. Purchases from approved resellers must be handled through the seller.

Before paying, confirm the product name, everyone's age category, the included admission levels, the reservation dates and your realistic individual-ticket alternative. Choose CityPASS when its two fixed visits and three choices match a fuller sightseeing plan; compare C3 for three selected attractions; keep individual tickets when they better match your interests, concessions or available time.
